By Jake Donovan - Fresh off of his six-round decision win over Jose Navarette Friday night in Reading, PA, undefeated Dominican prospect Argenis Mendez (12-0, 8KO) informed Boxingscene.com that he will return to the ring in just seven weeks. His next bout is already being lined up for a Telefutura card on July 25, the night before the big Miguel Cotto-Antonio Margarito showdown in Las Vegas, Nevada.
No word on an opponent yet, or a venue, though the card is said to take place in Las Vegas, to maximize exposure while serving as the lead-in to the Cotto-Margarito card the following night.
Mendez injured his hand in the third round, but nothing that should keep him out of the ring for any extended period of time. The rising young star told BoxingScene that he plans to return to the gym next week in preparation for his next bout.
