By Jake Donovan - Marco Antonio Rubio treated his middleweight bout with Freddy Cuevas as a warmup for bigger and better things to come – namely a September title fight with linear middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik. Consider it mission accomplished, as Rubio picked apart the 38-year old journeyman in scoring a 5th round stoppage in the main event of Telefutura's main event, aired live from the Sovereign Performing Arts Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. -About the fight-
I wouldn't call Antillons performance "struggling."
He got knocked down, but he was right up after. Thats what happens when you spend too much time fightin small guys and then you step in the ring with a huge black Colombian with the wing span of a ****in pterodactyl lmao.
Nah but every moment before and after that knock down was just Urbano taggin that body and chin over and over. Before the stoppage the Colombian kid looked like he wanted to pass out. He was gettin tagged in the face and grabbin Antillon, gettin hit to the body, sometimes he'd take it and fall into the ropes, or he'd grab Antillon. Plus Cruz kept throwin when he could.
Now I thought Smolger is a guy that would let guys fight?? But he was obviously on someone's payroll, he stopped the fight cause of Cruz's eye, but it wasn't that bad. Now I make that bold of a statement, because Smolger's reason for stoppin the fight would have been more "legit sounding" if he said "Cruz is takin too much punishment." But no, he comes up with some weak ass excuse to stop the fight? Granted, Cruz's eye was on it's way to becomin Rahman-style, but it wasn't there yet. And not only that, but Rahman got to keep fighting to the end I think.
I hate these ****in fat ass greasy slime ball promoters, I hate the ****in judges, and now I hate these weasel ass referees lol
Urbano needed that KO that WAS coming. Cruz was gasping for breath, folding to every hard body shot, which were 2 or 3 a round and that was out of maybe 6 body shots a round. Antillon didn't need to be babied by the ref, he didnt need the fight to come to a stop like that. Urbano needed that experience. A round or 2, 3 at most, Antillon would have gotten a KO or stoppage.
Not only that, but if Urbano was given more time to fight that would help his name and business aspect more then leavin the fans with a lame stoppage. You think protectin him and gettin the ref to interfere was the smart thing to do? Well, yeah...if you're over protective and a douche. If Antillon would have been able to keep goin, get that experience and that KO or "legit" stoppage, that would have given Antillon more fans, and would have gave people a reason to see him fight again. /rant.
-About Antillon-
Now as for Antillon, his only flaw is defense. Not in the sense he lacks it, cause he doesnt. He know's when to throw his guard up, he knows exactly when to throw his shell up, his armor, he knows when and how to throw it up.
The only problem is, his forearms are way too thin for that kind of guard. His arms are soo skinny that if you got heavy hands and you **** on his guard, it's still gonna rock him back. It looks like he's gettin ****** on.
Now he can't bulk up those arms, cause it will slow him down. He just needs to aquire some better head-movement and as he's movin his head, he should develop a counter shot from each angle. Other then that, he doesn't really have any other flaws. I thought he should have thrown more uppercuts, but for all I know I'm dead ****in wrong.
But all in all, bull**** stoppage. I will forever hate this ****in Steve Smolger guy lol. I'm serious, **** him in the ass with a yoyo that goes back and forth 10 times.
