This **** it bizarre, seriously. If true than sorry, it's almost un heard of a so called modern all time great, p4p #1 retires at the age of 31. With ppl living longer, in modern terms it's akin to someone retiring at 28 in the 80's, how does that sound?

Those are not the actions of someone A) whom has earnt top spot B) Beaten those at the top level, to much of an extent C) a total hollywood player whom has played the game as much as they can get away with to have such a supposedly flawless 0 record. D) A so called psychologically strong fighter, whom has dropped out attention seekingly, knowing he's likely to face an up hill struggle mentally and psysically in beating Osca De Lay Hoya, and continuing himself thereon.

This really has to make ppl think what excactly he's achieved. He was good, great in some eyes, going to be very great, but noway near as much as ppl thought/hoped, because people base it so much upon predicted future results. Fact is ODL was likely to beat him, psyschologically and pyscially stronger than ever, which broke him down before entering the ring.

It's more than reasonable to say Calzaghe is p4p #1, he's never lost, never blatantly turned down a fight, always beaten whomever is put infront of him, over come major injuries enforcing change of style, less power, and improvising. Displayed huge skills, great early KO record when pyscially possible, great speed, often un orthodox, a big draw, great chin. Past his peak and still top of 2 weight divisions, favourites against ANY contendor in either of them. Re-assess ppl, as hard as it is. Re-assess.

              don't beleive the hype

don't believe for one second mayweather will stay retired permenently. We must understand one thing, Floyd has made a lot of money in his career, but Floyd also spends a lot of money. Give him a year or two, and he will be back in the ring, becuase he will need to keep the money coming in to live the lifestyle he wants. The hunger might not be there today, but someone as insecure as him, will miss the limelight, especially if Cotto, continues on the tear he is on. The pressure for him to make the fight will be unbelieveable, and he will be back in the ring. I'll bet $100 to a doughnut Floyd will fight again.

True or not this bull**** is getting so tiring I don't care anymore. Some people are gonna hang on every word and rumor but at this point the fans are just getting cheated and yanked around way too much. I'd rather move on and enjoy the sport than speculate on this ****.

Different type of fighter, but Hagler retired at age 32. 31 is not like 28, come on man, humans don't change that much in two decades.

                      Dear Media:
It is with a heavy heart that I write you this message today. I have decided to permanently retire from boxing. This decision was not an easy one for me to make as boxing is all I have done since I was a child.
However, these past few years have been extremely difficult for me to find the desire and joy to continue in the sport.
Yep, hard to have fun boxing when you're forced to cart truckloads of cash to the bank. Ya got my sympathy.

I have said numerous times and after several of my fights over the past two years that I might not fight again. At the same time, I loved competing and winning and also wanted to continue my career for the fans, knowing they were there for me and enjoyed watching me fight
However, after many sleepless nights and intense soul-searching I realized I could no longer base my decision on anything but my own personal happiness, which I no longer could find. So I have finally made up my mind, spoken to my family, particularly my mother, and made my decision.
I am sorry I have to leave the sport at this time, knowing I still have my God-given abilities to succeed and future multi-million dollar paydays ahead, including the one right around the corner.

But there comes a time when money doesn't matter.
Yep, about the time you've made so much of it you know that the next 10 generations of your family couldn't spend it.

I just can't do it anymore. I have found a peace with my decision that I have not felt in a long time.
Finally, I want to personally thank all of my fans for their loyalty and dedication as my career comes to a close. I always believed that their enthusiasm and support helped carry me to victory with every fight I ever had.
It was a great joy to have fought for all of you. Now I hope you understand my decision and wish me well with the rest of my life.
                      Floyd Mayweather Jr.

You know, I've been expecting this for awhile. I'm not saying Floyd's a chicken****, but everybody knew he wasn't interested in facing Oscar again, or Margarito or Cotto for the first time. I think any of these three had about a 50/50 chance of handing him his first loss. I guess I can't blame him for wanting to retire a winner, I just wish he hadn't led everybody on for so long this year. He should've made the decision after his last fight and stuck with it. I'll always remember Mayweather as a self-centered ******* that could've done so many things for the sport, but decided he didn't really give a rat's ass about anything but the money after all.
