UFC to sign deal with FOX, Where's Boxing At???

With CBS signing a deal with Elite XC and Dana White to announce a deal to air UFC on Fox, why don't these promoters follow suit and get boxing back to Network TV already?

    Your thoughts...

Because we've got HBO and Showtime, and there's so much money at boxing that competitiveness may be suffering at money's expense.

because the biggest stars in boxing rather make their wallets fat than by making boxing marketable again.

Damn... This sucks for boxing. I've got sour g****s in my mouth about UFC/MMA becoming more popular in the world. Especially with Dana White "trying to kill boxing" and whatnot. This kills me to see this happen... especially since UFC is so much more raw and street like fighting.

I heard that boxing got taken off of free TV because a few people died from the fights that were shown... so they took it off and then made it 12 rounds instead of 15.

Though my brother has told me that John McCain, before the war, was going to have some type of regulation with boxing because he was a huge boxing fan. He told me something among the lines that he were to do something to make it much less ****ed with. Anyone heard anymore on this? I'd love to know about this.

Edit: Everyone in the last 3 High Schools i've been to, there's a ton of kids who watch UFC/training for MMA and barley know anything of boxing today. So I may be wrong when I say UFC/Pride/MMA is more popular, but it is around here.. that's for sure.

That and the networks probably think "Oh boxing is dying. We don't need it"

Because They do not care for doing business with old greedy promoters like Arum and King...
Boxing killed itself off with the defacation of the heavyweight division by don king! he had all the champs but never let them unify the dude milked the **** outta the division so they could fight over in europe so he could double his buck with euros.

All the big fights are on pay cable like Showtime and HBO or on Pay per view.

The next tier fights are on VERSUS, which is on limited cable systems or on FSN every now and then, which bows to regional coverage - so the fight may come on tape delayed at one in the morning if a local volleyball game needs aired and goes into OT.

The most available cable station that shows boxing - ESPN2 - is like watching NAIA college sports when the pay cable channels are showing Division I.

And the networks like CBS and NBC can't compete with HBO and Showtime because the promoters need too much money... they can't justify putting 2 million up for a fight that's going to get like a 2 or 3 rating in primetime. Pay Per View can appeal to a smaller group of fans who pay - pay cable earns subscription rates. The networks have to get the money from selling ad time - and it'll be hard to convince major companies that their products will get high profile attention if they pay Super Bowl like money for Winky Wright vs. Bernard Hopkins

Kimbo drew 6.5 million fans. Wait til Chuck Liddell is in prime time. You think Floyd or Oscar would fight on a network for a massive paycut? No way.

                  damn, that kinda sucks.

But, boxing will never die though, I mean the two sports can and will co-exist. MMA definitely might have more interest for the time being though.

Hopefully, boxing can learn from this and realize that keeping the big stars on HBO/Showtime/PPV only isolates itself from the mainstream.

Last year a lot of people in boxing said "thanks to MMA we made the fights people wanted to see happen." Well, now that MMA has two major network deals, boxing needs to do whatever it takes to get back in the public eye.
