World Boxing Council president Don Jose Sulaiman wonders, like some other fight fans, whether Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao will be the same fighter after moving up to lightweight to fight champion David Diaz at the Mandalay Bay Resort Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on June 28. [details]

It is not clear if there is any lost power when it comes to weight issues. Manny Pacquiao was 129+lbs on weigh-in but 146 lbs during fight. Reducing weight for several weeks then balloning up next day will affect the stamina of the fighter. When stamina is reduced, the power that was good for 12 rounds will only be good for 10 rounds. 11th and 12th will be punch then hold, punch then hold. A better technique is to have 10th and 11th rounds punch and hold strategy then come up fresh and strong like a bufallo on the final round. :-) -
Pac's conditioning might be better at 135 since he don't gotta struggle to make weight, but his power won't be as great. Not only he's movin up himself but of course he's gonna be fightin bigger guys who'll take those shots better. He could still KO some guys at 135 but he won't be a juggernaut anymore.Comment

I thought Corrales' chin and power got better when he moved from 130 to 135. He took flush shots from Freitas (although Freitas rarely sat down on his punches since he was moving around the ring like a jack rabbit on coke) and Castillo for a good 9 rounds. I don't think Pacquiao will be any different, but I could be wrong. If he drops and KOs Diaz, I would be very afraid if I was a lightweight.Comment
