Lampley is a mixed bag to me. Nobody creates the atmosphere or sets up his commentators look better. On the other hand, he really isn't very accurate on the blow by blow and relies too much on Compubox. It does seem like he is at least trying to tone down the cheering for the HBO housefighter lately.

Voted average because of his bias, which is commonly shared with the rest of the HBO team.

                i agree.

i mean he is the voice of boxing to me and does the blow by blow as good as i've heard it done.

Its like listening to a ring annoucner currently who isnt michael buffer...

when i think of current fights hearing jim lampley/larry merchant and michael buffer doing the ring announcing is the best it can get for me overall.

Merchant is funny...lampley calls the fight very well...and buffer is well...the voice of ring annoucing hands down.

Lamps catches the excitement and atmosphere of a fight like no one else.

Lampley can add a little more excitment to a fight with his commentary.. I like him because of that. He makes the moment better especially during a knock down or out.
I haven't seen anyone in the sport who could do his job better, I think he is good but not great because though he is a great commentator he lacks boxing knowledge sometimes.
