When they put on matchups like Pavlik/Lockett. When a casual fan tunes in to a fight like that all they see is Locket being 30-1 and assume he must be a quality opponent for Pavlik. They do this all the time to unbeknowing casual fans, Berto's last fight was against a guy who was 43-2 but was highly overmatched. HBO is in the business of building stars, its like when I was little and every week wrestlng would come on, the star would always wrestle a nobody. Thank GOD for Showtime and Gary Shaw being over there, he has repeatedly said that whoever he promotes will be in competitive fights, he isnt your typical promoter who is trying t make sure you win, he puts his fighters in tough fights so next time the fans will tune in again. That gray-headed menacing stare you see in the ring after his fighter's fight, the unrelenting poker face, thats what we need more of and it would be nice also if he even brought his act to more networks, it was his card he put on HBO with Yuriorkis Gamboa, all three of those fights were with good competition even though the house fighters were PROSPECTS. hbo didnt make the matchup, lockett is a mandatory challenger. hbo is showing the fight because pavlik is a big draw and exciting to watch.

As said he's a mandatory, he isn't a joke of a fight. He isn't likely to win or on Pavliks level. Showing his 31-0 is just honest, they won't make out it's great competition though, or that he's a star or top fighter.

The fight wouldn't happen if Lockett wasn't somehow the WBO mandatory contender. Blame the WBO.

At the very least Lockett losing might build up the possible Pavlik - Calzaghe fight because he is also trained by Enzo and his style will probably make for an exciting if short fight unless he is completely outclassed like Gomez was against Cotto.

Isnt' forrest fighting mora on saturday as well, whose record is 20-0 with a draw and was the contender winner but really sucks when it comes to world class boxing. Yeah thank god for showtime.........Boxing is boxing and it'll always be this way, showcases are needed at times, if you have a problem with it, go watch something else.

I didnt say anything about Lockett being a mandatory or not, but HBO doesnt have to show it if they dont want to. They reject many fight offers throw at them at the reason being that the fight isnt competitive enough. Again they reject many fights proposed to them.
