Whats the real reason Floyd fought Baldomir?

its obvious that floyd wanted to make the fights that were worth the most money at the time... in the order of: dlh, mosley, spinks, with baldomir and margarito at a tie with $8 million... so baldomir was undisputed and lineal champ so floyd went that way.Comment

I have heard from countless Floyd fans that the reason Floyd fought Baldomir instead of Margarito, was because Baldomir was the Undisputed/Linear WW Champ. Me personally, i doubt that was the "real" reason. This is why:
When Arum made Floyd the $8mil offer to fight Margarito, Floyd had yet to secure an opponent for his Nov 4th ppv date. He then went desperately scrambling for an opponent, when all along, Margarito was the only one willing to step in the ring with him. Not to mention, Margo was the #1 ranked WW at the time. Floyd went looking for fights with Shane (even though Shane had already stated that he will be taking the rest of the year off). He tried to get Oscar in the ring, but Oscar was in retirement mode at the time. He even went as low as to try to secure a fight with Cory Spinks! (Thank god that idea got shut down). Floyd ONLY choices were Margarito, or Baldomir (given Baldo beat Gatti). Floyd crossed his fingers, and prayed to the gods in hope of a Baldomir win. So my question is, if all along he had the option of fighting the #1 ranked WW for a career high payday, why wait, gamble, and risk losing out, in hopes that Baldomir beats Gatti? What would Floyd have done if Gatti won? There is no way on earth Gatti's people or HBO would've let that happen again, so what would Floyd have done? An even better question is, If Floyd's intentions were to go after Baldomir's titles/belts, why was Baldomir Floyd's last choice??? If you're after the WW champ, why do u go looking for fights with guys like Spinks and Shane? Floydboyz will argue that Floyd chose Baldomir over Margarito because Baldomir had the titles. Why wasnt Baldomir Floyd's first option then?????Comment

He fought Gomez as a "stay busy" fight while he awaited the winner of Margarito/Cintron. Yes, Gomez was a bum, and im not trying to justify him as an opponent, but it was what it was, and that was a "stay busy" fight. Talent wise, Gomez is on par with Baldomir. Only thing, Gomez didnt get as lucky as Baldomir and get put in the ring with a unprepared Zab Judah.Comment

The point im trying to make is, Floyboys will tell u that Baldomir was the most appealing option for Floyd, due to him beating Judah and capturing the WW lineal Championship title. When in reality, Floyd had no interest in fighting Baldomir yet. His November ppv date was closing in fast, and the only person willing to scrap with him was Margarito. Floyd made 101 excuses for why he wont fight him. One of the excuses was "nobody even knows who he is" As if Baldomir was a household name that everyone knew!...LOL. Floyd was desperately scrambling for another opponent, and asked Spinks and Mosley. No luck. It was then down to Baldomir or Margarito. There was an $8mil offer on the table for Floyd, and he declined. Floyd saw Baldomir as an easy fight where he can obtain the titles/belts with very little risk, and he went for it. So for the last time, my question is, if Baldomir was the most appealing option for Floyd, why did he wait till all of other option were out the window before he considered fighting him? I'll tell u why, he was scared to death of Margarito. That's why. He hid behind the fact that Baldomir was the so-called "best WW in the world" LOL.Comment
