Let's look at Winky's carrer from the start. Wright beat some French bums with losing records. For some reason he got a title shot because of this. He first challenged for a title against Vasquez, who knocked him down 17 times and beat him up for 12 rounds.
He then went back to France and beat 3 more guys with losing records (all 3 took him the distance) to earn himself yet another undeserved title fight. If you watch this fight you'll see that McKart deserved the W but Wright got the split decision and the WBO belt, which he soon lost to a knob-boy who had only had 16 fights. P4P material here, eh? Get this guy into the hall of fame!
Wright then beat an 11-4 guy, and based upon this great win he got ANOTHER undeserved title shot against Vargas. What happened? Oh yeah, he lost. Again.
Wright won twice more before getting ANOTHER shot, this time for a vacant title, and he at last managed to find a guy who he could beat, Robert Frazier (who?).
He won the IBF belt when it was vacant, making him a paper champion. He then beat Mosley for some more belts, but Mosley was only the champ because he roided up for de la Hoya then got a gift from the judges!!! And Mosley was a lightweight, so his best win so far is against a blown up lightweight? Wow.If only Gary Lockett could get a fight with Vinnie Paz maybe he'd be p4p as well.
Then Trinidad, a blown up, shot welterweight who was already destroyed by Hopkins? Great, he beat another blown up fighter, cong****. He then showed his quality by beating Sam Soliman in a less convincing manner than Mundine managed. Speaking of that, I'm sure you'd all agree that Mundine fighting him 3 times was pointless considering that he'd already beaten him twice? Well then let's criticise Wright for fight McKart a third time despite beating him twice!
Wright then failed to beat Taylor, refused to give him a rematch (chicken) and beat Ike Quartey (ooh a win over another blown up welterweight, yay) before losing to Hopkins.
And you call this guy great? He was a decent fighter but not great. I'd say that he is the most overrated boxer of the past 10 years, his wins over blownup fighters are somehow enough to overshadow his defeats to average boxers like Simon and Vasquez, and the fact that he lost to 62 year old Bernard Hopkins?
