For me it's the athlete in basketball at least. I watch the lakers play because Kobe is in it and I wanna see him drop 50 or 60 points or do something crazy with the ball.
With Boxing, it's a lil bit of both. I can watch boxing because of the sport itself and because of particular fighters. I love the sport itself. I can watch the Friday Night fights on ESPN just as much as the big fights on HBO.
I love to see new undefeated prospects I never heard off make their debut on Shobox and if I think they're the real deal, I'll follow their career more closely and become a fan.

Pretty interesting thoughts as always Horus. I am a football fan and to me my team Blackburn Rovers are more important than all the other teams in the league, who frankly I mostly hate, so you could say my team are more important to me than the sport.
I do think boxing is a bit different though, because it doesn't have the same degree of organisation that other sports do, with no rigid fixture lists, no single governing body, no real system for determining who is best, you could say that the sport of boxing is very much in the hands of the athletes who participate in it, in a way that is not true in other sports. Even if Blackburn Rovers play badly they are still part of the premier league which goes on no matter what, but in boxing the sport is defined by the matchups the fighters choose to make. When a fighter chooses to make sub-standard matchups, or no-matchups at all, that reflects badly on the sport as a whole, especially when the fighter doing it is the best in the business.
Thats why Mayweather gets such a hard time, because more than any other fighter, he is responsible for boxing, but he really doesn't seem to care too much.Comment
