True. Although I think he's a better fighter at SMW then LHW, based on his one fight at LHW. I'd like to see how does against other top guys at LHW, like Dawson, Johnson, Tarver. But we'll likely only see him fight Roy Jones at LHW and then Pavlik at SMW

I agree with you, Dawson in particular would be a different kettle of fish than Pavlik, and potentially a fantastic fight. Dawson has all the skill to trouble Calzaghe, but I have serious doubts about his tactical game and think that down the stretch he would find himself floundering against Joe.

That aside, fights like Dawson and Tarver would be great to see, but as of right now Pavlik is the guy who by consensus has "earned the shot" (although why Tarver hasn't, looking at his career, I will never understand) and is certainly a live fight. Bad style matchup for Kelly though, no doubt.

Just thought I'd like to point something out about Joe Calzaghe.

All this talk about his resume, who he beat etc, it doesn't mean ****.

Right now he's the legitimate champ at SMW and LHW and is the best boxer in the world at either of those weights.

Well...Chad Dawson's best wins at the weight are Adamek and Johnson, both good fighters, but not in Hopkins class. Joe's best win is Hopkins.

Say that Hopkins is old if you like, but I know you were picking him before the fight, and none of his best wins came when he was young did they?

I agree with you that with only one fight at the weight it would be desirable for Joe to fight either Tarver or Dawson, or both, but based on quality of wins I'd put Calzaghe above Dawson right now for sure, and since Hopkins beat Tarver well, above Tarver too.

I'd say there was a much better case for Tarver ahead of Dawson, but no doubt Dawson looks a talented fighter and I think he'll be the best in the future, but right now, with the Ring belt in his pocket, Calzaghe has to be the man at 175.
