Alonzo Butler vs. Friday Ahunyana on ESPN2

A promising American heavyweight, age 28 Alonzo Butler, is about to step up and face a decent journeyman, age 36 Friday Ahunyana.

This will be televised on Friday Night Fights on ESPN2 on June 20.

Ahunyana has been a gatekeeper for the last several years. He surprised many people by winning a TKO over Shane Cameron late last year.

Butler (26-0) has been fighting soft opposition up until now. This will be his first real test.

I don't know how much of a step up this will be, Ahunanya is among the slowest heavyweights out there. It doesn't figure to be a pretty fight.

Friday's a decent journeyman, somewhat slow but he's durable and has some power. He's definitely a step up from the tomato cans Butler's been fighting.

A step up in class is always relative.

The co-feature will either be Canadian Mark "Machine Gun" Woolnough (18-5-1) who did very well against Carl Froch, will likely be fighting Antwan Echols in a ten rounder. Or an eight rounder with Anouther Canadian in Heavyweight Shane "*******" Andreesen (10-0, 6KO's). The undercard will be somthing to watch.

I've been at ringside at Andreesen and Woolnough fights here in Vancouver, and they both seem to have very good boxing skills. Woolnough has very fast hands.

I sparred Butler back in College about 7 or 8 years ago when we were both starting. Much bigger than me, but so uncordinated and at times tunnel-visioned that it was so easy to get out of the way of his punches. however, when my legs failed to get me out of trouble, staying in his punching zone wasn't the best idea. If Ahunanya keeps his hands moving and actually moves his cast iron feet, he can do some serious damage to ZO, but Friday doesn't move well either and is durable as hell. povetkin's victory over Ahunanya was a surgical beating and im surprised it went the distance. If Butler has time to tee-off, then this can be an exciting fight (please watch Cameron/Ahunanya, this is the type of action im talking about) or this could be boring as hell, ala Estrada/Whitaker but slower.

I think Friday Ahunyana may pull off another upset here, and expose Alonzo Butler.

"big zo" has all the ability in the world! If he ever sets his mind to getting in shape and concentrating on becoming a champion he will be hard to stop!!! I've trained with him for the last 9 years and have seen him at his best and worst!!! All he needs is some discipline and he'll be one of the top guys in the division!! I dont know how he'll perform to night.....but hope he shows the real him instead of the one we've seen the last couple of time on tv!!!
