To all those saying Kelly Pavlik is a lesser version of Kessler...

I agree Pavlik is like Kessler but slower, and may have slightly less power, but that one is very debatable. But there are a few significant differences we should take into account before we say he'd lose to Calzaghe cuz Kessler did.

    1. Kelly has never taken a single backwards step in a fight. This is extremely important when you're fighting someone like Calzaghe, who is constantly pushing forward. If Kessler hadn't taken a step back, he may have won. I don't see Kelly stepping back unless he gets really hurt, which is unlikely. Not impossible though, I'll admit.

    2. WORKRATE- No one has a higher workrate from Middleweight up than Kelly. Kessler probably throws 2/3 or less the amount of punches of Kelly, and that is another big, big difference, especially in a Calzaghe fight where he is usually clearly the busier man. This fight it will not be the case, at least not clearly.

So to all those in the "If Kessler lost, so will Kelly", chew on that for a minute.

i dont see any logical reasoning that can be used to determine that kessler is a bigger/faster kelly pavlik. it's all in your head if you think that.

its kinda annoying that my two favorite fighters.... pavlik and klitschko are so much better than their opposition that the haters cant do anything more than question their "speed", which in both cases is above average. just cause kelly is a big gangly white boy doesent make him slow and just because someone doesent know enough about boxing to point out a legitimate shortcoming ... that wont slow him down either.

I agree that Kelly is underrated, he's my favorite fighter and I see alot people write him off. But he is slightly slower that Kessler, I have noticed that. But when you factor in everything else he has, conditioning, heart, power, finishing up a hurt fighter, I think he edges Kessler out.

Good post, I was going to post something like this the other day.

Pavlik will be a very, very hard opponent. I'd still say Kessler would beat Pavlik @ 168, he's simply bigger.

Kessler looks like a monster at 168. Am surprised he can make the weight!

I don't see Pavlik beating Calzaghe but I'd still like to see that fight.

Pavlik wins this fight even tho Pavlik isn't all that. Kessler is a straight up bum and can go back to fighting bums. Whats his biggest win Andrande?
