    Booing Of Anthems......

England played the USA last night at ''soccer''....USA lost! Anyhow before the game the anthems were played and there was no booing of the US anthem.

Does this end the Hattons ''soccer hooligan fans'' myth? Surely if this myth were true it would have happend at the game last night?

People always highlight Hatton fans booing the national anthem at the Mayweather fight which was tragic but the Americans booed the British national anthem at the Woods vs. Tarver fight and I have never seen people bring that up on this forum, never! Just thought I should include that point!

and if i was an american at the calzaghe-hopkins fight or at hatton-mayweather i'd have quite happily booed those warbling renditions of the stars n stripes those RnB guys were quite literally destroying the anthem....

Very good point. Clearly yanks are over protective of their anthem compared to a lot of other countries who can take it with a pinch of salt. English national anthem has way more history, to boo that is as bad if not worse. Most yanks wouldn't accept that, double standards.

Certainly don't like booing of any national anthem. It'll always happen a bit, by a minority. Doesn't mean national anthems should stop, or people should believe for a second any decent portion of ppl would be so dis respectful. Same as scuffs at sporting events, its a minority and always will be.

agreed,we actually wrote there anthem anyway, thats why it pains me to listen to it being murdered,it is wrong to booo them and i wouldnt do it but as you say there will always be certain contingent that does,in every nation

I would prefer it if there were no boo's etc, its one thing to dislike a fighter but there is no need to disrespect a whole nation. Just my opinion.

BTW did anyone see her from Destiny's Child sing the American anthem? Apart from her over singing it the mike was knackered, she sounded like Norman Collier (older brits will know who I mean).
