LOL, I remember that very well! It's just funny sometimes how you never know who will turn out to be what....I watched that fight, It was on that great series of USA fights, and when James said that afterwards in his post fight interview I was really surprised and the main reason was because I had no idea who he was... he didn't have a big amateur career so I never saw him at the nationals or anything...the next day I was at the courthouse here and one of the guards was asking me, "Who was that kid on TV last night calling you out??" I told him I had no idea. The next thing you know, though, he is beating Merqui Sosa on TV and then Nunn... and just about three years after I first saw him I was sparring with him in Michigan. Small world, boxing.

How do you think you would have done had the fight actually happened?

Back then at 160 it was a terrible time for me making that weight...taking exlax, running every day in a rubber suit, etc. We were both young and pretty inexperienced as pros but he was a lot more energetic and hungry than I was..he woud have beaten me...by decision

When I think of Toney, I think of Naughty By Nature singing "O.P.P." and Reebok PUMP shoes.

Sparring went great...we boxed for five weeks...sometimes did SEVEN MINUTE rounds in the very hot summer of 1993. Great time in my life

Totally off the topic, I saw your thread about boxing prospects past and present a while ago, i know the fighters mentioned in that story, but in your personal opinion who are the best prospects in boxing today?

Well, I am not sure if they are still prospects so to speak but I think Berto and both Petersen brothers are very good. We have a local kid from new England here named Edwin Rodriguez, 5-0 at this point, 168 pounds, who is looking pretty good. Also, I have heard fom a very good source that this kid from Montreal named Adonis Stevenson is a MURDEROUS puncher
