Floyd Mayweather Jr. Still The WBC Champ, For Now

Last week, Tony Morgan, who trains unbeaten welterweight prospect Andre Berto, had an interview with The Ledger and told the paper that Berto's WBC eliminator with "Mikki" Angel Rodriguez of Mexico, scheduled for June 21, would become a title fight for the vacant WBC belt. He said the current champion, Floyd Mayweather Jr, was planning to vacate the title rather than defend it. [details]

I hope Berto won't wait as long as Castillejo:

      ODLH-Vargas
      ODLH-Campas
      ODLH-Mosely
      Mosely-Wright I
      Mosely-Wright II

Stop, did I say "I hope"? Actually, I don't care.

Hmm... To be honest.. I would like to see floyd fight berto.. I think he'd beat angel... Well he'd probably beat berto too but it would be interesting to watch him fight him... and both are undefeated...

But no one knows berto so it has about 5 percent chance of happening.... Cuz I doubt floyd loves being the wbc welter more than a 10-15 million payday overall with a De La Hoya rematch.

Floyd's got bigger fish to fry than defend it against Berto.

I knew this story was fishy when it was posted last week. I didn't see it on any other boxing forums. Shame on BoxingScene for not checking out the facts first before releasing a big story about Mayweather being stripped.
