Calzaghe has never boxed at MW as far as I know, I thought he'd been SMW since he turned pro. I don't think calzaghe could make 160 and box effectively, it would be too much weight loss.

168 is a different story, having boxed there is whole career I'm sure he could lose 7lbs and get back down, even if it might be a little bit difficult. I think doing so is a risky thing for Calzaghe though, because boxing is littered with examples of fighters changing weight and then finding all is not as they expected. You only have to look at Roy Jones and more recently, Chris Byrd to see the inherent dangers. Add in the fact that Joe will be 37 by the time any Pavlik fight rolls around and you have what in some people's eyes is a recipe for disaster.

That said, I am confident that if they meet at SMW any time in the next 18 months, Joe will beat Kelly comfortably. Kelly Pavlik is a tremendously dangerous boxer who I have a lot of time for, but Joe Calzaghe is at this stage a clear cut above him. To win kelly would need to add something more to his game than he currently has and though I'm sure he would be very motivated and try to do exactly that against Calzaghe, I think in the end Joe's class would be too much for him.

I really hope this fight happens.

Calzaghe has never been able to make 160 as a pro, but if he did somehow, he would lose by KO, would be WAY too weight drained.

Only way Kelly beats him though, any other circumstances and this is as wide as they get: Calzaghe by KO/UD shutout.

I think it would be incredible if he made middlewieght and beat pavlik.
I do think he can make middlewieght again but it may effect his performance he will need to lose 15 pounds and hes been a middlewieght before so i think he has a chance of making that wieght.
