Absolutely not. I don't even understand how anyone can suggest he is to be honest. He has been beating good welterweights for years now and I think he might very well beat Cotto when they fight.

Strengths


- Margarito has one of the best chins in boxing today. The only fighter with comparable chin is Baldomir.

- Margarito has exceptional stamina. He can throw upwards of 100 punches per round and doesn't seem affected at all by fatigue.

- Margarito has a very good inside game. Trading with him inside is not the most intelligent option to beat him

- Killer uppercut.

- Volume puncher. Can win close rounds based on his punching output.

Possible weaknesses

- Doesn't know how to "fight tall". Will give up height shorter opponents because he likes the inside game.

- Doesn't properly use all the leverage he could on a lot of his punches. Still, he is strong enough to knock people out without proper technique.

- Throws too many wide punches, leaving himself open to counterpunches.

No, he's one of the top welterweights, he has his flaws but he does what he does very well.

And I agree he is not a "great fighter", but his strengths might be what's needed to beat a great fighter that's physically weaker than him.
