Well its hard to say because everyone i encounter who doesnt know anything about the sport knows BOTH ali and tyson.

I'd have to say ali historically was more popular the only issue is in today's times (kids 14 years old and such) would have heard of tyson more EASILY than ali...(since ali hasnt fought since when? 1980 i believe.

As i said though; overall i'd say ali is most popular in the ring and out of it.

Tyson i'd have to say is the second most popular in the sport overall...

beyond that i dont know who would be 3rd...possibly oscar de la hoya.
