    Animosity Towards Non American Fighters....

LOL, everything they say is aimed at taking something away from Hatton, its quite strange as to why the americans HAVE to have such an animosity towards non American fighters, considering the fact that your a country made up of immigration your insecurities and self obsession astounds me.

Lazcanzo lands- "Hatton is in DIRE trouble, I'm going to cum!!!..."

Hatton lands,,,"Hatton's workrate is OK, nothing special, my nan could probably do just as good..."

you were all watching a different fight to me thats clear from some of the posts and threads iv read!

well done ricky lad, good to see the old naz hamed syndrome has passed you by,your a legend mate support ya win or lose.

(A lot of) American fans have this kind of 'inventors complex.' With fighters that 'their country didn't produce.' It's not ours, so it can't be good.

It happens to a lesser degree with fighters that fight fans in general don't choose out of the crop of fighters. If they didn't pick this guy to be something, they usually don't want that fighter to be something.

Some fans have actual complaints, and so fighters deserve it (Sven Ottke). But in general, it works both ways. U.K. fans do it just as much, especially on this board.

Not at all , the Brits take everything said as a slur even its only slightly negative , if your not pumping Hattons tyres up your dumping on him according to you guys , you guys do your share of finding fault in other countrys fighters and 10 fold more if they just beat a British fighter especially Hatton and Cal ,,, like I heard many say Kessler is **** prior and great after Cal kicks his butt , too many posters have strong double standards for me , and its based around where they come from , I just dont get that concept at all .

I think a lot of Americans on here (not all, but a lot) make the mistake of thinking that it is a virtue to know and care about only fighters from the States and that this one-sided perception is somehow better than the alternative of being well informed and having balanced opinions. All to often, patriotic support of a flourishing boxing scene becomes a jingoistic competitiveness that cannot see outside that world and seeks to dismiss anything that is not part of it. In adopting this inward looking position, they do not realise that far from being a virtue, it is actually a pretty big failing. By dismissing the fights and fighters that they are not familiar with, they basically deny themselves the opportunity to appreciate some of the best boxers and boxing in the world, and when they do so they routinely make themselves look ignorant and make America look, far from a great country, like an arrogant, self regarding and ultimately mean spirited one.

I think if we are honest too, that Americans are the main culprits when it comes to this type of behaviour on these boards. I have rarely or never encountered British fans saying Hopkins is awful, Jones a fraud and Toney a joke, just Americans thinking that those opinions are implicit in the belief that, for example, Joe Calzaghe is a great fighter, when no such belief is implied. How often do we see posts saying things like "I'm tired of you brits hyping up Joe Calzaghe, he's a bum" in response to what basically are the type of threads that dozens of US based fighter have made about them everyday? I am not saying that there is no room for healthy debate, competition and support, that is what being a sports fan is all about, but I think that people on these boards in general and American posters in particular could benefit from becoming a bit more tolerant and realising that there is a whole world of boxing out there, different fighters, different fans that instead dismissing and deriding it they would find it far more rewarding to embrace it and explore it, and in doing so enrich firstly their own knowledge of boxing and as a result the experience of ALL users of these boards.

I think alot of people on here are falling into the trap of thinking most Americans are xenophobic and are judging us based on a few American posters who happen to be loud as hell about slamming non US fighters. Trust me, most of us appreciate a good fighter no matter where he is from.

Nice to hear and undoubtedly true. It's always the voices of a vocal minority that seem to stir up trouble.
