BJ Penn has arguably the best Jiu Jitsu in MMA, if he got Mayweather to the ground he would submit him in less than 15 seconds before they standup...BJ will just continue to take Mayweather down until he submits him in that 15 second time frame.....Of course there is always the chance that Mayweather could catch BJ coming in with a lead right hand or keep BJ at bay with his jab...If Mayweather learns takedown defence he would win under those rules.

thgis leaves me to ponder, what is more difficult to effectively learn? grappling or boxing? i know boxing is a science that is best learned from childhood to be as great as possible, but if you can get enough experience from 3-5 years of grappling with an already extensive boxing background and be successful in MMA, i dont see why it would be that hard for a boxer to achieve that.BJ Penn has arguably the best Jiu Jitsu in MMA, if he got Mayweather to the ground he would submit him in less than 15 seconds before they standup...BJ will just continue to take Mayweather down until he submits him in that 15 second time frame.....Of course there is always the chance that Mayweather could catch BJ coming in with a lead right hand or keep BJ at bay with his jab...If Mayweather learns takedown defence he would win under those rules.Comment

Grappling is much easier to learn....Look at Mirko Crocop for example, he was a champion kickboxer in K1, he made a successful transition to MMA with only a couple years grappling experience.thgis leaves me to ponder, what is more difficult to effectively learn? grappling or boxing? i know boxing is a science that is best learned from childhood to be as great as possible, but if you can get enough experience from 3-5 years of grappling with an already extensive boxing background and be successful in MMA, i dont see why it would be that hard for a boxer to achieve that.
If all the top boxers like Mayweather,Klitschko,Cotto, etc. worked on grappling and takedown defence for a few years they would be very successful in MMA.Last edited by WLAD OWNS; 05-26-2008, 12:30 AM.Comment

Jens Pulver is a very good MMA fighter and is known for having great hands. He went pro as a boxer and was "decent". Pulver in frist fight with Penn boxed his face off, ****ed him off with good combos and angles. Watch Penn-PuvlerI and you will have your answer.
Also Ricardo Mayorga with those small ass gloves and straight forward attack would break jaws like ice in MMA.Comment

You really think Penn would stand and trade with Mayorga? Penn would have Mayorga off his feet in seconds. Once he is on the ground Penn would have him totally at his mercy.Comment

No doubt about that. Penn would never stand with Mayorga, he would take him down ASAP. As with any pro boxer on the ground he would be very outmatched.Comment
