Whether you like Floyd or not, he brings casual fans to watch boxing(decling ratiings and fans for years) that otherwise wouldn't watch. There is a plethora of money driven egomaniac athletes in all different sports today. If Mayweather was gone everyone would miss his presence even his detractors.
Everything that is wrong with boxing today...

No Oscar De La Hoya brings casual fans. Floyd brings out the youth and hiphop fans who worship money. There minds are flooded with The Hills, Americas Next Top Model and hundreds of other shows all based around prosperity and having money in excess. America is the worlds embarassment due to its obsession with money. America is the Floyd Mayweather of the world to be perfect honest. I'd rather there be no new boxing fans than people who will solely watch boxing to see one douche bag act like a spoiled rotten child.Comment
But he does play the dirty game. You can't really blame him or the other. We can however blame the managers and the orgs. My motto is: Flollow the money and hit them pockets. Boxing is seeing no dime from me until these issues are dealt with. We are seeing MMA and K1 really coming popular in popularity in a fraction of the time it took boxing! When will you wake up? Yes you and only you can stop this shame. So Floyd is the reason Calzaghe has waited until now to fight good opponents? Floyd is the reason the entire HW division is a joke? Floyd is the reason Barrera and Morales had too much ring wear to keep fighting? Floyd is the reason boxing scoring systems are outdated? Floyd is the reason Kellerman is on HBO now?
I doubt it very much.
Hate Floyd all you want, but keep things in perspective. He has done nothing to warrant hate or blame for anything outside of a boring ODLH fight and perhaps a 2nd one.
It has nothing to do with Floyd, well, not all of it. I say Floyd being SEMIretired is ******ed. Either the man hangs them or keeps fighting good opposition, not exhibition matches. In all honesty i think he also knows it's time to call it quits, he's just cashing out really. Or he's already done that, who knows?
But when you see people like Calzaghe going straight to the p4p ranks by fighting 43 year olds, while people defeating 10 years their junior champions don't even get a too 10 p4p mention, you can say it's ****ed up. I mean, is this the MTV charts for pop or BOXING?
When you have the Don Kings and Bob Arums of the world still picking weak opponents for their fighters, who will probably get one or two good fights in a ****ing 10 year period, that's ****ed up.
No cent of mine to pay these pimps.Comment
