Nonito Donaire: The Growing Frustration with Inactivity

By Ryan ******** - Nearly a year has passed since Nonito Donaire scored Ring Magazine's Knockout of the Year for '07, earning the flyweight crown and bringing an exciting new angle to the lighter divisions. Instead of engaging with the best of the flyweight bunch, Donaire is at home in San Leandro, CA, working out, waiting for that phone call that never seems to come. [details]

Darchinyan is up for a title fight. If he wins, he might not risk it to the guy he got brutally KO'd by. I think the whole point is that Donaire is being "ducked".

          Gary Shaw playing games

What kind of game is Gary Shaw playing? I, like a lot of Nonito’s fans, have been waiting in frustration for his next fight. Now this. The height of indignity. Making Nonito fight in the Darchinyan undercard! MAYBE. For goodness sake, he knocked the guy out! Why would a promoter, in his right mind, allow his own fighter, his own champion, be belittled and denigrated in this way? ANSWER: FOR CONTROL. Looks to me like Shaw is punishing Nonito, showing him who’s Boss, showing Nonito that his career will go nowhere without Shaw. Shaw yanks the chain and Nonito heels. I wonder what Nonito did to incur his master’s wrath.

If what I’m saying isn’t true, why has Nonito’s career floundered? Why is this promoter not promoting him? Is Shaw so powerful and so feared that nobody writes about this?

          Funny business boxing.

I dont think Darchinyans people would put him to fight Nonito again. Its not like it was 1 lucky punch, Donaire was whopping Vic's ass all night and hurt him multiple times. There is no reason to think a rematch would be any different.......thats why I dont think a Vic rematch will happen.

Nonito should change promotores and get with Golden Boy. Then Nonito can fight on Pac undercards. He should be able to get more money and much bigger fights that way. Hell, if Bobby can get Humberto just from being on Pac's undercards then Nonito can get some guys too.

a very promising and good figter in the person of nonito waiting in the sideline hoping to get a fight.

              what a pity.

he should fire his promoter. nonito would be better off with top rank or gbp.

Relocate to Japan or get a new promoter.

im going to have to agree, that division is loaded with native asians and mexicans and here in america that vic fight was one of the only profitable tv fights that could have been made.

During Nonito's interview at Philippine Sports radio program, He still has 2 years left with his contract with Shaw but other promoters have shown interest of a buyout on Nonito...
