I consider myself to be a pretty big Floyd fan. I have supported him by purchasing his PPV fights even when I've felt that they may have not been worth the $ such as the De La Hoya fight.
Now, in every sport, you always have the fans that are die hard for their favorite team or athlete, but the debates that happen are usually about who is the best and who can do this or that and what they have done. That is part of the game and its part of Boxing. Those kinds of discussions between diehards are what makes being a fan fun.
But seeing some of the threads and post in this forum, I sometimes am completely surprised at the mentality of some of the posters. You have some Cotto fans claiming that Cotto could easily KO Floyd and thats fine. What is the point of being a fan of someone if you don't believe in them. There are some Floyd fans who believe he is the greatest of all time and thats fine. Floyd has accomplished some amazing things no one has in Boxing and as a fan, you have the right to that opinion.
But as a Floyd fan, I read some of the **** you guys post in pure astonishment. Such as Bhopreign's "If Cotto vs. Margarito doesn't do 500K PPV fights, they aren't worth of Floyd". This is completely unbelievable. Its flabbergasting that this particular individual would call himself a boxing fan and yet make such a horrible thread in the light of what many consider boxing's decline. Further more, who CAN get 500K besides Floyd? Who?
Why as a boxing fan would you be HAPPY and HORNY at the thought of Floyd fighting boxers he easily already defeated just because it would make HIM more money? At this point, what are you being a fan of?
How is this kind of mentality, this kind of thinking be possibly good for boxing? How, as a fan, could you think that the sport's best and arguably biggest boxer fighting boxers he has already easily defeated reflect positively on the sport's current status? Even if this is the way it is, even if this is how the sport now is being executed, why would you support that? Everyone can agree that boxing is currently in a sort of "dark age" where quality is being trumped by greed and politics. Of course, greed and politics have always been part of the sport, but it usually resulted in great fights. Not anymore.
