If Cotto-Margarito Don't Do 500,000+ Buys, They Ain't Worthy Of Floyd

you're losing bad. floyd took steps to get here, but what propelled him over the top in PPV #'s were his opponents, not floyd. you and i both know that.Comment

HBO turned down Miguel Cotto a buncha times which is why the Bobfather had to make one of his own independent Top Rank PPV's...Example: Malignaggie/Cotto.
Floyd didn't have that problem.Comment

Neither Ike, Tito, or Shane had ever done **** on PPV before Oscar; Floyd had never done above 400K before Oscar. Part of being the sports key draw is bringing the rest of the sport up with you. Oscar did that, making all of those fighters lives better when he could have made money elsewhere without them. Mayweather did it with Hatton who had no PPV presence at all before December but that doesn't mean he can stop. Cotto would be, in the U.S. market, bigger than Hatton by early 09. It's always been that way. Great fighters with big draw against top opponents = growth for boxing and greater greatness. If Mayweather is better than Oscar ever was (and he probably is) why would anyone argue it okay for him to do less than Oscar? Mayweather, if he chooses to continue fighting, and Cotto keeps winning, fights Cotto or it's bull**** and so is he.

The point im trying to make is Cotto is becoming a star FASTER then Mayweather did.. He has already had PPVs, Headlined HBO, Sold out MSG and is only 27..
Mayweather, like Baya said, had trouble selling out a free card at Cotto's age!
With the exposure he is getting now.. by the time he is at the point of his career Mayweather is now.. He will be a bigger star and just as known if not more..Comment

critical thinking not a strong point eh - here .. lets lay it out for you ... if cotto on his own name is garnering PPV worthy attention already at 26, a good 4 years before floyd started to.
then just think reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally hard you might come up with the real possibility that with another PPV friendly dance partner - he shatters floyd's numbers.
but he wont because odlh don't want none of cotto. floyd did get that one, good for him!Last edited by Bhopreign; 05-22-2008, 09:08 PM.Comment

Example: Gatti's first and only PPV. Biggest payday of his career.
Delahoya's biggest PPV, his biggest payday.

The large majority of Floyd's fights were on HBO. That's an accomplishment on it's own.

He won't reach the Floyd mainstream level........too boring of a character.
True boxing fans can always appriciate a quiet but good fighter like that BUt that's as far as it goes.Comment
