Alright guys. I did that interview and if you give me a moment I'll briefly speak up on Graham's behalf on a few of the points you guys made, as some good ones have been made on this strand.
I think the Steward gripe was building since the Castillo fight, as I recall Manny was quite critical in that commentary. I think there was also a critical comment by Manny after the Mayweather fight and all that accumalated into the comments in the interview.
That interview is one of three parts and as they progress you see Graham mellow and speak on behalf of other trainers such as Enzo Calzaghe and Oliver Harrison (who recently parted company with Amir Khan). He also discusses how much he enjoys being around boxing, its fans and the fighters. As well as his early days in training and a personal tragedy that made him decide to see a career in training through.
This first part was done in the aftermath of the Floyd fight and the next parts mellow down, until a final discussion about some Internet comments made about him over a year ago.
The interview was specifically done with the Internet readership in mind as Graham is aware that the Internet is becoming more and more important in boxing. To that end I'll happily put forward the points about Manny's commentary for the Floyd fight and anything else anyone wants to address.
All I can say for those who feel strongly about the guy is that like him or not he put many years into the local boxing scene and is incredibly passionate about the sport. Trainers like Graham, Enzo and Manny often work for years without rewards and they are often characters who put opinions out there.
I hope the next two parts, if you choose to read them, give you a sense of where he is coming from.
Thanks for the comments and for taking time to make them.Comment

What comments did Manny make to cause this tension?Comment

Off the top of my head I think the Castillo commentary was quite critical and a misreading of the fight. I would not like to commit to paraphrasing the commentary as I don't have that fight on in the background, plus it is 12:50am on a work night here! I should take the bullet for not explicating more fully in the article but in my defence I had well over 20 pages of text to get through for this one and wanted to get as much of Graham's side across as possible. Over the other two parts the pace of the article is less frantic and I think Graham's passion comes across well.
If you look at interviews I have done with him in the past he is generally very complimentary about fellow trainers and would be the first to point out that Steward's signature fighter Thomas Hearns is one of the all time greats.Comment
