Casual people pay for Oscar and Mayweather fights because they are told that these are the two biggest and best in the sport. So they buy it, watch it, and then think, "Man, boxing sucks now!" and they are immediately turned off forever.

Even if this trend of the best fighting the best continues and some good fights make it to free, or non Pay-per-View television, the great fights from these two Welterweights will be forgotten. Even if he finishes his career undefeated, Miguel Cotto will have trouble being considered an all-time great, simply because the general public doesn't know his name as well as the Sugar Ray's, the Ali's, etc.

It's taken the boxing world too long to realize what has to happen to put the sport back on top, and a lot of good/great fighters will suffer for it.

it will be a great fight, but probably not a great event, b/c as stated perviously, neither of these guys are a huge draw, and despite cotto's success and skill, he's still not a household name.

sad, but that's the way it is.

ppl forget- styles are what determine wheter a fight is good or not. you can bash mayweather all you want, but b/c his style isn't crowd pleasing, it doesn't make him less of a great fighter. you've just gotta find the right opponent to make him "entertaining".
the same mayweather that fought baldomir, is the same mayweather that fought ricky hatton, is the same mayweather that fought he la hoya. ppl will say the hatton fight was the best fight b/c hatton was the right opponent to "press" the fight and make it entertaining. so yes, the hatton fight was the most entertaining, but the de la hoya fight was the best b/c although neither fighter "presses" action, they are the two best fighters.

having said that, the fight btw. cotto and margo will be a memorable battle, probably FOY, but its not b/c they are better than mayweather or de la hoya, b/c the contrary is true. it will be a better fight b/c cotto and margo have styles that wont allow for anything but a war. no strategy, just an all-out war.

buy what you like ppl, but the mayweather-dlh fight is not an abomination to the sport as some of you make it out to be, its just the styles of the fighters demand more of a "chess-match" than the all-out action fight cotto and margarito are gonna bring us. it's funny, ppl criticize mayweather for taking the 25 million dollar fight( and that alone is enoug to take any fight), but the bigger picture is that we should be grateful b/c we have the possibility of a great fight in july, another in september, the the two winners meeting up in an explosion in december or early next year!

oscar/mayweather...jeez.... this is what it has comes too!!!

doent see no hbo 27/7 hype here. tight economy tight hbo money.

i see this as the best matchup in years.
good undercards would help but would cut into others profit.but would be nice if these promoters would put popular up and comers in with named trial horses.

you're right. this will be a very enterataining fight, probably the most in a while. i'm just simply saying, b/c a fight is more entertaining doesn't make it a more worthy fight with more worthy opponents. truth be told, margarito doesn't even deserve this fight. he had a chance, fought pw instead an lost! the he beats a guy he already beat, and he's back???

but im not complaining like a lot of you. like i said, you've got the potential for two great fights, with the winners meeting down the road. this is the way it should be.

It has the potential to be a great event, but it's going to need help to get there. It needs lots of exposure and a solid promotion behind it. If they promote this the right way it could be a great success for boxing.

I too think it will be an event like type of fight. One thing im sure of is that Margarito maybe for the first time will be backed by Mexican greats who will attend the fight. And im sure the same on Cottos side. And im sure we'll see many Champions in the audience.
Except for Barrera he seems to always side against his countrymen...LOL
