Ya know, I really like both of these fighters, but if this were the late-90's Johnston he'd take Cherry to school. Cherry is a pretty basic fighter, but he works hard and he has decent pop in the right hand.

Sad to see faded fighters you used to follow.

Round 3: Cherry starts with a couple of decent jabs, Johnston counters w/ one of his own back over the top. They clinc and each throw a few on the inside to the body. Johnston knocked down from a decent straight right as he was off balance. Doesn't seem hurt. Cherry with a decent combination upstairs and down. Johnston seems bent on keeping his jab working and throwing his right on the inside. Cherry takes a digger in the corner. Johnston still showing good moves avoiding the bulk of Cherry's shot at the end of the round. 29-27 for Cherry.

Round 4: They each trade a couple of shots at clsoe range to start the round. Round continues as the previous have. Johnston gets insdie and lands a couple of ecent rights downstairs. Johnston has a small cut above his eye. Johnston throws a hook off balanced, ruled a slip. Johnston trying to land some straight lefts to the body. Decent jab by Johnston, then Cherry digs to the body some more. Solid left hook to the body for Cherry. They both seem content on working each other's bodies while in close. Pretty close round for Cherry I guess, 39-36

Cherry looks decent. A young Johnston would win this fight.

The first fight had one of the most bazaar knockouts I've ever seen, haha.

Round 5: Both working to the body again, Johnston lands a couple of small hooks upstairs. Solid right from distance for Cherry sends Stevie to the ropes a little as Cherry rushes in and starts throwing in bunches. Cherry just leaning into Johnston and now sitting back looking to counter w/ his right again. They exchange some more body shots in close. Johnston tries to reestablish his jab a little but has to be careful not to get caught by Cherry's counter right as he's still looking to load up on one. Straight left to the body by Johnston at the bell. Another for Cherry, 49-45

As Gringo stated, a Prime Johnston wins this in a Cakewalk. Cherry is just too basic in his skills, despite having a fairly decent set of them and how he implements them. Nothing really "special" about him, as has been seen in the past.

Round 6: Cherry landing a few Jabs as he actually throws some again. Johnston still throwing his straight left to the body after his jab. Cherry staying on the outside throwing his jab w/ a couple of straihgt rights. Decent right for Cherry after a couple of jabs. Johnston lands a couple of jabs and a left of his own. Very good straight right by Cherry, the best punch of the fight so far. Cherry staying outside making Stevie chase trying to land that straight right again. 59-54 Cherry.

Cherry's a good fighter, but he's lost every time he's stepped up. Maybe he'll improve with time. If this fight goes his way, maybe he'll get another step up chance.

Round 7: Cherry goes back to the same strategy as before. Throwing the jab a little while looking to lad up on a right hand when Johnston comes in. Johnston with a good left . Johnston land s a couple of shots on the inside up and down. Johnston was the busier fighter and slipped the bulk of Cherry's punches, first round he's won in a while. 68-64 Cherry.

Seems like Stevie is gonna have to do something special to win this fight. Sad to see him maybe at the end of road as far as his career goes. I remember him being a big deal here in Colorado back in his hey day.

Round 8: Start of the round is a clash of heads that Cherry doesn't seem to like. Decent right by cherry on the inside, then a coule of jabs on the outside. Cherry n longer throwing the jab, purely looking for that coutner right. Johnston just not throwing anything until they're clinched. Two lefts by Johnston up top. Wrestling a little on the inside as they each continue to throw a copule to the body. Johnston's handspeed is diminished in this round noticeably, but still showing solid technique at slipping cherry's punches. Another round for Johnston by simply being busier. 77-74
