i dont think it was his whole career but he did develop a cataract. At some stage which he had when he fought Ali in Manilla. With an eye swollen shut and the other one with a cataract he was pretty much fighting blind. Hence his corner throwin in the towel. When he fought Foreman for the second time he wore a contact lens in that eye. Its all in Joe Frazier beyond the glory.Comment

Joe Frazier was legally blind in his left eye for the majority of his career. His left hook would stop his guys from moving to his left side and get them moving to the right, which would keep them right in Frazier's sights.Comment

In his book he says at some point in his career(i forget the exact point) he wouldnt' pass the eye exam there for not letting him fight if he had not cheated by putting one hand up to cover the bad eye and then the other hand up to the cover the same bad eye. Allowing him to pass the eye exam. He was partially blind in one eye. Fighting blind. Today he can't see that good from one eye and i think i remember him saying in the book that one day he may go blind in one eye. Joe Fraizer said in his book, "i can be blind and broke....or i can be blind and rich!" Which is why he fought on.
And when his son was to go to Europe for a top Amature Competition Fraizer didn't let him go. He had a nightmare that something bad was going to happen. The plane that his son was supposed to go on crashed.
Fraziers dad had one arm. The other arm i belive if i remember correctly he lost it from an accident. So his dad made Joe Frazier use his left arm(the arm his dad was missing or couldnt' use) to carry every thing and use all the time when he would help out his dad. There you can see possable why Fraziers left hook was so powerfull. And i recall his dad made a punching bag for Frazier where Frazier hit the bag everyday.
