A perfect example of a fight supported only by Boxing diehards is the Pavlik/Taylor rematch. Taylor is no stranger to PPV and Pavlik is an exciting fighter yet the fight only did about 240K i believe. Every hardcore fan knew that was a fight to watch, but the numbers show the mainstream wasnt interested. So if 350-370 people spend money to watch these fools fight, that would obviously mean that they ARE known in the mainstream. I mean, one cant first say that both of them arent known to the public, but then turn around and say that the fight might do 350-370, which is really great in today's times, and say its really not that good you know?

        240K = No good
        350+ = Good
        370+ = Great
NO....if they do 300-370k, that means the hardcore fans showed up full mode for them. Something they didn't do for the Cotto-Gomez/Cintron-Margarito double header.

          I'm not sure I follow.

If you're suggesting because Floyd got to fight a fan pleasing fight in dominating fashion against Gatti that his PPV #'s get blown up because of that, wouldn't they then go down after his displeasing performances?

Think of it in terms of elections. It's not about whether there are more ********s or **********s in a race... it's about who convinces their team to get out and vote. There are boxing people who tune in for every fight, the key is to get the people who normally or seldomly would.

Success is a loaded term. Everybody who watches boxing a lot or decent amount is anticipating this fight all ready. We don't need the PPV #'s to see that. The point is, because of that the HBO 24/7 series would unlikely draw anymore people who wouldn't all ready tune in (getting back to the original point, which you seem to be straying further and further from).

This is the difference between Mayweather and his Hardcore boxing fans to mainstream transitional numbers and Cotto's:

Floyd vs Gatti - Gatti's first and only PPV fight. Biggest payday of his career.

Floyd vs Judah - Judah's first PPV and the highest PPV numbers of his career. Cotto-Judah did less then that. The biggest payday of his career.

Floyd vs Baldomir - Baldomir's first and only PPV. His biggest payday to date. Baldomir against Gatti ( you know Gatti, the guy that Floyd did a PPV with because he is such a PPV attraction) was on free HBO.

Floyd vs Oscar - 2.5 million PPV buys....a new record. Did more then Oscar-Mosley, Oscar-Trinidad, Oscar-Mayorga, Oscar-(insert here).

Floyd - Hatton - Hatton's first and only PPV, his biggest payday to date. Did 900K

                ANY QUESTIONS?

If it does the maximum of 370 i'd say it decent and could be considred successfull.

If it it's closer to the minimum of 300k that I'm predicting then it's a flop.

                  We shall see.

if this fight were to do 350-370K without a countdown, without a 24/7 series which most HBO fights that meet or EXCEED those numbers have, how could that not mean that there IS general interests in that fight. It just seems like some of you are looking for a cop out in case it does match those numbers.

Listen I got nothing to argue with you about.

Me saying it won't do more then 300-370 is to those who predict it will do 400k or more.

If you're not one of those people we got no problem. Over and out.
