    25 Years Ago Today :)

My first ever sanctioned amateur boxing match, an exhibition bout on May 20, 1983 with Golden Gloves champion open class Isidro Roman at the Robert Early School in Meriden.

To commemorate the event I picked up Isidro at his place of work and we drove over to the school and took a couple of photos together out in front of the building.

To celebrate the event I sparred six rounds in the gym in the afternoon with two different opponents.

    25 years...and still kicking

Sparred? Come back here John? Great thinking, write a book! Then collect more stories, and then write a sequal!

    Brilliant!!

Dang 25 years must've went by fast.

A question, were you nervous your first match and how did you adjust to it

That is a nice milestone. If you are going to spar for as long as humanly possible, you can go until you are 90 something. I have seen oooold guys that fought still sparring. It's the same as runners. I was a distance runner my entire life. I intend to do it until I die. Boxers are the same way. I've seen some really old guys boxing, and many of them look pretty good. I really give it to the guys that actually fight at an advanced age. Foreman, Holmes, God...I think Saul Mamby just fought and he is 63!!!!! Those guys are great and could do it forever.

Sure I was nervous...I was 15...only had been boxing a year and was about to do a three rounder in my first fight ith the defending GG champion. Yup, I was nervous. I adjusted...by doing it. Its like when u are nervous about jumping off of the high dive board...you just have to DO IT
