What is your guys opinion on Rid**** Bowe?

Just looking at his record, he only has 1 loss, which came in his trilogy with Holyfield, so how is he looked at in boxing's history?

He had great potential but I don't think he ever reached his full potential because of his lack of discipline outside of the ring. Good fighter, could've been better.

He was a very good fighter, but lazy outside the ring.

He had respectable outside boxing skills and a nice jab, but preferred to fight on the inside. Gil Clancy was on-point when he said that Eddie Futch did a masterful job in teaching Bowe how to fight on the inside. Great right uppercut, terrific workrate, good handspeed on the inside. Bowe's main weakness in the ring (training camp aside) was his poor defense. Sometimes he would slip shots, but took WAY too many shots. He was so prone to brawling instead of boxing, and got hit a lot. While he seemed to have a good chin, it should be noted that he rarely faced big punchers, and often was hurt when he did face them. Bowe (or Newman) avoided Lewis, was hurt numerous times by Golota and got rocked whenever Hide landed cleanly on him.

Bowe had a padded record as a pro, kind of like Tye Fields. Only a couple of decent names on his resume. He ducked Lennox Lewis, who defeated him in the amateurs.

Yeah, he'll always be remembered for throwing his WBC belt in the trash because he refused to defend against Lewis. Bowe was very good but must not have loved the sport enough to stay dedicated. A major underachiever.

Rid**** Bowe was a very good heavyweight who had all the talent/potential to be a GREAT heavyweight...maybe even an all time great...

but (as many others have said) he was an underachiever.

He could have taken his career much further than he did.

If he still a good fighter none the less? of course...but he could have went on to do some great things.

lol Ok Bowe hasnt got the greatest record but comparing Bowe to Tye Field is ******, 2 wins against an all time great heavyweight Evander Holyfield and solid wins against Pinklon Thomas, Tony Tubbs, Bruce Seldon, Pierre Coetzer, Larry Donald and Herbie Hide is not bad at all. He should have had that fight with lewis which is very annoying but other than that there was nobody else, people say he ducked Ray Mercer but this is not true he signed to fight Mercer but he lost his warm up fight to Jesse Ferguson so Ferguson got the chance instead.

exactly not to mention that in his first title defence he knocked out former champ Michael Dokes in the first round

but dont listen to what tunney says man. he thinks he's the heavyweight guru around here, but that's bs. he knows just as much as the next guy. he even said that james toney looks like a gorilla and now he's denying it. but dont ever take him serious, man's a racist.
