I didn't really have any doubts that the card would sell out and that they'd be a great atmosphere in the arena. I think the real challenge is to get 400,000-500,000+ PPV buys. Margarito has never been on PPV and Cotto didn't quite get to 400,000 buys against Mosley, who's been on some successfull PPVs before.

Before you Margarito and Cotto fans get all pissed off, I'm not saying it won't get there. I'm saying we won't know how big of a crossover event it's going to be until we see the PPV numbers. If it hits 500,000 I bet Mayweather fights the winner by spring 2009.

        .
If I were a betting man (and I am), I say that this fight doesn't do as much as Pac's Mexican fights. Despite being smaller guys, i do not think Tony has as much commercial appeal within the Mex community as Erik and MAB. Plus, this economy will limit some buys.

Side note: industry reports have Cotto-Mosley NOWHERE NEAR 400K. That was an Arum number.

When a fight does 350K-ish, HBO will publish that number. The Cotto buys went unpublished because they were disappointing. Hence, the reason his next fight was a WCB event with Marg on the card.

Cotto has had three consecutive disappointing PPV's, and his WCB ratings were very low.

Yup, Cotto v. Cotto should be good. Now that he's fighting himself we'll see if he can sell his fight by himself.

let me say something about the person who says cotto will win because tony is overrated, boy you are giving that eye-brow waxer a lot of credit, jaja,,so that means that for the second straight fight he is fighting a bum,,what a champ he is.

Floyd's excuse of Cotto's lack of ppv drawing power is just plain silly if u think of it. Where was Baldomir's drawing power? Where was Judah's mega drawing power? Hatton has a huge fanbase, but he was not a proven ppv star prior to his fight with Floyd. Floyd says he's the face of boxing, and he single handidly sold over 2million ppv's in 07. If that's the case, why care about what Cotto brings in terms of drawing power?
