    Gamboa's future......

Gamboa looked very impressie for his 10th fight. His conditioning, speed, movement and punch rate are certainly world class. He comes across to me as a sort of mix between Aaron Pryor and Meldrick Taylor, except Meldrick seemed to be faster with better defense. And Pryor's pivoting, turns and counter punching were more fluid and polished.

However, I see three main flaws.

    1) He has no punching power
    2) I do not think he will be able to correct the low hands issue
    3) There is not a great deal of accuracy with his punches

Jimenex is a good, solid "b" level fighter and would have done much better if he would have just thrown the jab. From what I saw Jimenex hardly used the jab at all.

My prediction is Gamboa will get beat, more than likely ko'd, when he gets in with an "a " level fighter....

I think he can improve his flaws, most importantly among them is to keep his hands higher.

He did lose snap on his punches as the fight progressed, I'm not sure if that's a stamina problem or him not being accustomed yet to fighting 10 round fights, same thing for his accuracy. As the fight wore on, his punches became kind of amateurish, arm punches meant to just tap Jimenez and keep him on the defensive.

One other thing I want him to work on is keeping his chin tucked when he is throwing combinations, his chin was up in the air when he was letting his hands go and that was when Jimenez managed to catch him.

But it's only his 10th pro fight, he stepped up in class and won nearly every round, I think he can only improve from here and I think he can make an impact in about a year or two.

yeah, i agree with all your points. it will be interesting to see if he can correct the hands? don't look for his HANDLERS to put him in with an "a" lister for at least a year.

I think he can improve if he has the right trainer and the dedication to do it. He should fight a few more Jimenez-type fighters to sharpen his skills.

i'd like to see him in next with monty meza-clay. monty seems to be a little bigger, stronger, faster and harder punching than jimenez. could make for an interesting fight?

That could be an interesting fight. Maybe even an experienced veteran like Gairy St. Clair, who wouldn't give him too much trouble but enough difficulty to learn a few things.

I agree, I think this will be his downfall. With all his amateur fights combined with the fact that he's 26-27 I'm doubtful he's going to be able to properly correct this. He's showed good heart and toughness by not letting the knockdown or even all the clean shots discourage him from fighting. That combined with his offensive ability could at the very least make for some exciting fights in the future.

I'm think he's gonna have to get knocked the **** out so that he can start putting his hands up.

Pretty accurate and honest analysis. This guy shows flashes of brilliance, but he also shows lots of faults. Poor defense, week power, and a suspect chin... usually not the recipe of a champion.

Yep, I see it that way too although it's not a fully formed thought for me yet. Just instinct.
