The kid has got to keep his hands up. Hopefully his trainers can change that one major flaw in his game.

      3. He made a HUGE leap up in pressure.

With all of these things in mind, Yuriorkis Gambo performed absolutely brilliantly. Granted, he showed some rough edges that need polishing, but considering the circumstances...

Once again, keep in mind, this was his FIRST 10 round fight. His FIRST fight against a truly world class opponent. All this on his FIRST appearance on HBO, and all this in his 10th pro fight.

Gamboa once again put on a dazzling display of hand speed and combination punching. He displayed power, poise, and amazing footwork.

Most importantly, he showed that he CAN take a punch, CAN go ten rounds, and CAN deal with a tough opponent that can punch.

Obviously he will need to make some adjustments, but that is what seasoning is for. There is no such thing as a fighter able to compete on the truly elite level in their 10th pro fight.

I would like to see him hook up with a trainer like Floyd Mayweather Sr. or Roger Mayweather.
What fight were you watching? Not even a mention of his defensive woes? Looks like someone has an agenda.

Jiminez had ONE good win with Mike Anchondo (FORMER champ). And if you look at Anchondo's resume, it's not so sparkling. Jiminez also hadn't boxed in well over a year.

That being said, this WAS a BIG step up from where Gamboa had been fighting. Hopefully he improves his defense and steps it up even another notch in his next fight.

Gamboa has talent. No doubt. But I'm telling you, that looping left hook he finishes his combos with, and repositions to a orthodox fighters right side? Someone's going to figure that out if he doesn't correct it, and blast him with a right cross. The defense needs some work.
But he has a lot to work with. Great talent.

So at this point, who is the better prospect, Khan or Gamboa?

EDIT: I think Khan, at five years younger and with slightly less natural ability giving him that vital bit of humility and the desire and neccessity to learn, it is Khan who will do the best long term. I envisage Gamboa having a future as a 'talented but flawed' fighter.

Gamboa, I'm not that impressed by Khan.
