I'm not so sure that 12 rounds really is safer than 15.

For instance, you have situations where a guy died like Duk Koo Kim after being stopped in the 14th round. But who's to say he would've lived if it were a 12 round fight? They could've just fought at an even faster pace if it were 12 rounds and ultimately do the same amount of damage. Or the serious damage could've already been done within the first 12 of that fight and it took awhile for it to totally show.

Take a look at the Robert Quiroga-Kid Akeem Anifowoshe fight. After 12 rounds, Akeem looked better off than Quiroga. He seemed to have his wits about him, going over to touch gloves and hug Quiroga, walking around, seeming to be fine. Then he collapses after the decision is announced, needs emergency surgery to save his life, and his death a couple years later was probably in large part due to the damage sustained in this fight.

Boxing is great as it is, It's actually better now then it has been in a long time.

I remember the days of the top guys never fighting each other, Trinidad fighting a bunch of bums on Showtime. Don King pretty much putting on whatever crap he wanted on that channel. HBO having exclusive Contracts with their fighters so the HBO and Showtime fighters would never fight.

These past few years have been great IMO, I don't know what people are bitching about.

There needs to be ONE BELT per weight Category and a legitimate system of Contenders who compete for the right to fight the champion.
That way you get a legit champ who can NEVER cherry pick his fights once he holds the belt.
The end of PPV and fights shown live on terrestrial TV on Saturday nights would be advantageous as well.

But Boxing will have to get to a serious stage of decline before the Bigwigs will even consider this.

For now we will be in this limbo state where Trinket holders and greedy promoters milk the sport dry of talent and credibility.

I was taking to a former Boxer (aged around 70yrs old)the other day who said he stopped watching boxing in the early 1990's as he could not be bothered with trying to figure out who was the best as he had no clue which title was worth anything anymore.
The death of Boxing on terrestrial TV also made him stop watching as he could not afford to pay for PPV or Satellite TV.

I actually miss how good some of those Don King PPVs were in the mid 90s though. He probably did some ****ed up things to get all those fighters on one card, but they had some really good PPV cards.

That whole "Night of the Rematches" (Norris-Brown, Jackson-McClellan, Chavez-Randall, Nelson-Leija). Later that year he had Trinidad-Campas on the undercard of Chavez-Taylor 2, and also there was some other good fight on that card (Coggi?). In December 1994, he had Trinidad-Carr on the undercard of Chavez-Lopez I think, and also had that classic Castro-Jackson fight.

Oh I agree, but even if Kim was injured before the 12th round. Taking additional punishment certainly would not make his situation better.

We will continue to lose fighters even with the 12 round standard, but I feel a little safer for the fighter who fights there. Even if it saves 5%, it is something I can live with.

I agree he had the best cards on PPV back in the day but lets not forget about all the crap he would put on Showtime.

Bob Arum used to also put on nothing but dog **** on the Delahoya undercards, who can forget Butterbean and Mia St John on every undercard.
