  • Prime Calzaghe beats Prime Hopkins convincingly

    I think it's funny as hell how people on here can be so ignorant to say "Calzaghe vs Hopkins was close, this means Hopkins win win EASY in his prime"

    Uh hello... 36 year old Calzaghe is in his Prime? That is ludacris.

    In my opinion Hopkins got his best chance of beating Calzaghe in April and lets be honest... Calzaghe won and was robbed of an UD victory by one ****** judge.

    So this makes me think, what does a prime Hopkins do better than a prime Calzaghe?

    So I ask the question, what fight was Hopkins in his prime?

    I'd say his physical prime was against Glen Johnson but what did he do better than a prime Joe?

    Power = Calzaghe
    Work rate = Calzaghe, still.
    Speed = Calzaghe

    Yes Hopkins punches straighter but is that enough to overcome all three of these obstacles? Hopkins in his physical prime did not have the mental knowledge he has now and he actually came forward which suits Calzaghe. He had no where near the amount of experience he has against southpaws back then either.

    Please can someone tell me how Bernard wins this.

    Their styles would always make for close fights.

      Agreed.

      I don't see how anyone can give the edge to Hopkins though.

      I think it's a bit of national bias leaking in.

        First, that's wrong. There was never a point in their careers when Calzaghe hit harder than Hopkins. ****, even if you want to say Calzaghe hit harder than Nard... B-Hop still has a better chin.

        Further; power, workrate, and speed aren't the only things to determine the winner of a fight.

        Hopkins ring IQ and defense are well ahead of Calzaghe's. Hopkins would fight a smart fight, as was his usual plan, and would counter and land lead rights. In their primes I honestly think it's a relative cakewalk on the scorecards for Hopkins.

          We'll never know how good Calz was because he wouldn't come here and fight any good fighters when he was in his prime.

                If he could have he would have..

                Joe stayed in his WBO place fighting bums FOR A REASON..

                If he had the goods to beat a prime Hopkins then he is a FOOL for not making it happen..
