oscar fought some of the best, but the point is legacy cementing fights do not involve another bring rematch against Mayweather. Cotto-Margarito have people talking in a good way, Mayweather/De La Hoya II has a 90%-10% negative reaction. Mayweather should be fighitng the winner of Cotto/Margarito while De La Hota should be going after Winky Wright or Vernon ForrestComment

Ray Robinson avoided Charley Burley and arguably Cocoa Kid. By his own admission, he disliked the sport and it was all about business and money for him.
Larry Holmes did fight Marvis Frazier when he was a contender. He was stripped for not fighting Greg Page and also never unified against any of the WBA titlists, except for an aborted matchup with Gerrie Coetzee. He never rematched Ken Norton, Mike Weaver, or Tim Witherspoon, despite all of them giving him tough fights and in the case with Spoon, a controversial decision.
He gave up his WBC belt because he chose to fight Marvis Frazier for $3 million rather than Greg Page for $1.5 mil. Larry talks about it on a recent issue of The Ring with the Fishnet on the cover.
The Ring: Tell me what you miss the most about...
Larry Holmes (Interrupting): The money!! M-O-N-E-Y. I miss the money. I miss the big checks that came in every time I fought.
I'm not really getting into the "ducks", because most fighters are gonna miss out on some contenders and titlists out there. I'm talking about the whole thing about fighters being after money. So they care most about money. Big deal that a person in a dangerous job like boxing is primarily concerned with money. Fans praising a fighter saying "well he took the high risk low reward fights" isn't gonna help your kids and family with your $0 in pension and health benefits (which often is necessary) that boxing provides.Comment

De La Hoya is just making money, say what you want but when he was younger he was GREAT on the way to one of the All Time Best but like it says money rules the world. Mayweather HAS to fight Cotto, he HAS to. I think Mayweather is the king of boxing but don't sit on that throne and say your the best because the people will soon kick you out and put someone else in your place. Forget the belts the people know who's who even if reading some of these post you may not think so.Comment

I AGREE 100%. THAT'S WHY "GOLDIE" WILL NEVER BE CONSIDERED A "GREAT FIGHTER" A GREAT MONEY MAKER AND PPV BUYS? NO QUESTION, THE GREATEST IN BOXING HISTORY!!! BUT "BLOW FOR BLOW?" HE DOSEN'T EVEN TOUCH THE SURFACE!!!! HE CONNED EVERYONE BY FIGHTING SMALLER, LIGHTER, EVERYTHING TO HIS ADVANTAGE FIGHTS, AND SUCKERED HIS OWN PEOPLE INTO MAKING HIM A MILLIONARIE. FIGHT PEOPLE YOUR OWN SIZE "GOLDIE", LIKE JCC, OLIVARES, PINTOR, ZARATE DID, NOT 30, 35,40, POUNDERS THAT YOU OUTWEIGH AND CAN'T HURT YOU. IT'S NOT LIKE THERE IS A SHORTAGE OF FIGHTERS IN YOUR WEIGHT CLASS. (WINKY, FORREST, TAYLOR, PAVLIK, ETC.ETC.ETC.) ARE ALL THERE WAITING FOR SOME OF THAT ASS!! BUT YOU CONTINUE TO SHOW YOUR "REAL" COLORS. YELLOWRay Robinson avoided Charley Burley and arguably Cocoa Kid. The Fishnet fought quite a few smaller guys moving up in weight, but he did fight some bigger guys as well, who were well more accustomed to the weight class than DLH was.I AGREE 100%.
