    Douglas after 14 seconds down

I have seen the fight many times and i´m sure Buster Douglas was down 14 seconds in his knockdown, is unfair that refeere give him the oportunity for to be in the books like the fighter who did the greatest up set in the history of this sport.

prime tyson to me is one of the greatest heavyweights ever, and one of my favourite fighters. as much as i love him i have to be fair to buster

he went in against all odds, in the best shape, fighting the fight of his life, against a champion who wasnt what he should have been that night. but he won, and it wasnt no luck

i've also debated this myself, but i came to grips with it.

yes buster douglas was down for 14 secs, but tyson also got a long count. and it wasnt the first or last time that a fighter received a count longet than 10 seconds. in fact it's not unusual.

Never liked that argument. The referee's count is official, plus you can't count until the other man is in the neutral corner I believe.

I understand man. I was a huge Tyson fan back in his heyday and still am a fan, but sometimes it's just best to let go of things.

10 count does not equal 10 seconds.

As Ron Borges says in response to Don King:

"The guy said 9, and he got up. This is boxing baloney, it's not true"

Exactly. The refs count is the final count. Period. Such a silly, spurious argument.....both then- when Don King and his clowns did that whole "14 seconds" counting bit when they wanted to steal the belts back, and now. Douglas wasn't even seriously hurt, and was never in real trouble from the ground- when he hit the floor, he pounded the canvas in disgust almost immediately, and then watched the ref closely and with clear eyes for the count. Had the count been "quicker," he'd have had no trouble getting up quicker. Tyson was great in his run, but in the end, Tyson got his ass kicked for 10 rounds and eventually KO'd by a relative no-name. That's just the way it is, and no amount of revisionist semantics will ever change that. It is was it is.

aint it funny how tyson was compared to dempsey and deja vu struck him with his own long count?

Exactly. Nowhere in the rules does it say the fighter has only 10 seconds to get up. They just have to beat the referees 10 count.
