Cotto is very good at switching up his style throughout the fight. He did it impressively with Mosley as Mosley became the aggressor and Cotto became the effective counter puncher. He'll need to do that against Floyd. Cotto is also very patient, which most guys who fight Floyd aren't (i.e. Oscar & Hatton). If Cotto uses his jab and creates openings to the body he can wear down Mayweather.
As far as Floyd, his skills and defense don't parallel to Cotto and that's where his advantage will be. He's an excellent counter puncher and has the ability to frustrate a fighter making him try to come in while Floyd sets up combos.
I still think Cotto can pull it off. He has the ability to turn a fight around and become the aggressor without throwing unnecessary punches which Oscar & Hatton did unsuccessfully.
