    Mitchell to make American debut

British super-featherweight champion Kevin Mitchell will defend his WBO Intercontinental belt at the Boardwalk Hotel in Atlantic City next month.

The 23-year-old Londoner will make his United States debut on the undercard of Gary Lockett's world middleweight title challenge against Kelly Pavlik.

He said: "I'll knock out whoever they put in front of me and do it in style.

"I get some fan mail from the States, but those who haven't seen me yet won't be disappointed."

Mitchell stretched his unbeaten run to 26 bouts in March when he stopped Carl Johanneson in the ninth round to claim the British super-featherweight crown. An opponent has not yet been named for the fight on 7 June but Mitchell is confident of defeating whoever he faces.

"I've always wanted to fight in the States, and to do so on such a big card is great news," added Mitchell.

"But this is just the start - I plan to go back and appear in Las Vegas and New York as well.

"This is turning out to be a fantastic year for me. I've already headlined a show at the home of British boxing, York Hall, then fought in front of 20,000 people to win the British title at the O2 Arena.

"When [promoter] Frank Warren phoned me to say I'd be boxing in the States as well, it was just the icing on the cake.

I would like to see him face a decent challange, but I am 99.9% Wank Warren will put him in with a tomato can sadly. It will be a shame because Mitchell is questionably the most entertaining boxer in the UK at the moment and could make some noise at super-featherweight. Someone like Gogoladze would be a good test, but he is too dangerous for Warren.
