I can't see Cotto outboxing Margarito for 12 rounds. He's not exactly light on his feet and he's 4 or 5 inches shorter than Margarito. Anytime he's in position to land a shot he'll be in position to take a shot. I don't think he can handle the consistent pressure Margarito will bring.

I think Cotto is on another level. He has great skill. You have to remember that Cotto isn't the kind of fighter to wilt under pressure. He has incredible determination and heart, and his chin has more the held up at welterweight. Margarito's gonna notice that when he pressures Cotto, Cotto's gonna pressure back and rip him with the sharper, faster and just as hard if not harder punches in the exchanges inside. Cotto will constantly beat him to the punch. He can move in and out and definitely hold his own on the inside. It'll be a very tough fight, but I see Cotto taking this one.

Cotto's chin has held up to single shots but what about a barrage? If he takes a hard shot he's not going to be able to just turtle up and recover against Margarito. Beating Margarito to the punch will only help if he can hurt Margarito and make him slow down. I'm skeptical as to whether he can do that.

Take me through it in technical terms, because when threads got made referring to Cotto's ability to stand up to pressure, and Cotto's chin, there were non answers and tounge in cheek responses. Some Cotto supporters have already stepped forward and said they can't pick him. It's reality time.
Hang on, is this a joke? I've not read all the replies so it may very well be.

Margarito is limited. He lost to Paul Williams and Daniel Santos, he's a decent fringe world class operator and nothing more. Cotto, on the other hand, is p4p top 5 and a future legend. His power, his movement, his defence are all superior to Antonio's. That's how Cotto will win. Addy, mate, I'll put all my points on it with you if you want.

He just has to show up.

Margo is a club fighter with a good chin. Fight the rigt fight against him e.g. not like Cintron and you can beat him.

Cotto does not NEED a KO. He can win by fighting a sound technical fight. Cotto can win this fight in at least 2 ways: KO or boxing.

Margarito can only win via KO. I don't see him out boxing Cotto. So advantage Cotto. Skills, Speed and power.

I am new here but this guy Addison seems obsessed with Cotto.

When it got tough against Mosley he used his boxing skills.Mosley is a better boxer than Margarito. If Margarito comes expecting a head to head battle he'l be dispointed. He better be able to change coz Cotto will use different strategies in the fight.Margarito wont win this fight

I agree with the idea that Cotto needs to outbox Margarito. He has three things over Margarito, speed, a better jab and a fantastic left hook. The significance of the left hook is that it is Margarito's biggest weakness, he has shown consistent vulnerability to that punch. Not that Cotto is taking him out with it, but it will check Margarito's forward progress some. The speed and the jab are what will allow Cotto to outbox him.

I think that the folks that are picking Margarito are figuring him to knock Cotto out. I don't think Margarito is fast enough, to catch him often enough, to accomplish that. And I don't believe that Cotto will make this a brawl, he respects how tough Margarito is.
