Hatton at 140 is much better than Hatton at 147.
And Cotto at 147 is much better than Cotto at 140
By late 2006 Cotto was already having such a hard time making weight at 140 that he was getting rocked and rolled far too much for his own good.
Not sure if any of you remember what he looked liked during the weigh in prior to his match against Paulie Malignaggi. Cotto looked ****** up, dry and pale. He looked like a walking corpse or a speed freak.
I will take Hatton over Cotto at 140 and I will take Cotto over Hatton at 147.
It's pretty simple.Comment

At Jr Welterweight Cotto was chinny and lacking in stamina. Arum knows this which is why they could never fight at that weight. The fight would be competitive to begin with but Cotto did not like to work too hard and it would become increasingly one sided throughout the fight. Hatton starts fast and keeps up the pace so I would expect him to rack up three or four rounds early, Cotto could win the next few and then Hatton really starts to take over with a possible late stoppage or a wide decision.
However: Sicne moving up to Welterweight Cotto has really come into his own. He is boxing backwards, mixing it up and has shown none of the weaknesses he did 7 lbs south. On the other hand Hatton has shown how easily his strengths (bullishness, strength, power, workrate) count against him at 147 lbs. Cotto beats Hatton at Welterweight, possibly by stoppage.Comment

Cotto would definitely beat Hatton.
He's the stronger, healthier, faster and more skillful fighter.Comment
