This is the way I see it, if there are fighters who were greater than Ali, why wouldn't they fight better fighters than him? Why would they allow such doubts to prevail?

it's one of 2 things or maybe both. first there's very few fighters, if any (and im not being a fanboy) who are on the same level of ali's oppositions. you could pick off names of the condenders that he fought, but then again to me, a guy like ron lyle, jerry quarry, shavers, and even the awkward oscar bonavena would be champions today. and if there are any fighters on such level there's always risk vs reward factor. no one wants to risk loosing a title in exchange for distinction of having fought a credible name on their record.
