It's a saying.

Most people, not all, have very little character and integrity.
They will cheat, lie, cross and double-cross, hide the truth, fail their friends, not speak their mind, say and do different things etc.

This is lack of character.

If you are good at mirroring the people around you, you will most likely be well-liked by most people. After all, we attract who we are.

On the flip-side though, if you always say what you mean, if you speak your mind without being scared of the consequences, you will hurt some people's pride and you will get some "enemies" along the way.
Not because you are a ****, but because you make them feel uncomfortable by always speaking the truth.

You can call me a twat and a **** for saying that I firmly feel that humans that shoot animals for the sake of sport should be shot for the sake of sport themselves.
But me feeling that doesn't make me a ****. What makes me a **** is the fact that you get offended by me having different opinions than you.

That proves what I said. Character attracts haters, providing enemies.
