  • Henry Bruseles Vs Lamont Peterson

Henry Bruseles hasn't lost a fight since Floyd Mayweather defeated him 3 years ago.

Some critisized Floyd for fighting this guy. But riding a 6 fight, 3 year winning streak and perhaps scoring a victory over a young, up and coming, undefeated top prospect like Lamont Petersen, and Floyd's victory over the Puerto Rican would look alot better right about now.

Yes all roads lead to Mayweather..even a Lamont Peterson thread.

Probably, I won't even argue that.

I was just going through boxrec and stumbled upon Brusseles. This guy has been missing in action since losing to Floyd. I was suprised to see that he is still active and hasn't lost since Mayweather and is about to get a crack at a top young fighter. Couldn't resist making a thread about him.

Bruseles is a good fighter, but should not have been in the same ring with Mayweather in the first place. He shouldnt be in the same ring with Peterson either.
Fighting 2x a year against non contenders shouldnt thrust you into a fight with arguably the top contender in the division. This is a fight to make Peterson look really good. Bruseles rematched Wilfredo 'Papin' Negron in a rematch of their FOY candidate a few years ago and Negron obviously needs to hang them up. I think Bruseles' last fight was against a guy who was stopped by a cut in the 4th round and while Henry was doing well, the guy was landing too much on him.
Peterson needs to fight better fighters out there. No disrespect to Bruseles...I always cheer on my countrymen, but a bad matchup for both him and boxing in general.

I agree, if Bruseles loses this fight, he'll be nothing but a gate keeper
for up and coming, young fighters. Big risk and no reward. I figure Cotto
his trainer, thinks he can get Henry past Peterson..

Bruseles just fought a couple of weeks ago on Telefutura. Well, maybe a month ago - it was the night before Cotto-Gomez. Whatever the case, he fought Ben Tackie in a distance fight. The cut stoppage was his prior fight (also on Telefutura), though the opponent's name escapes me at the moment.

Not sure why folks are down on this fight. Bruseles is as fundamentally sound as they come on the fringe contender level. It's quite obvious that he'll never be a major titlist, but he'll give you a good night's work when not matched against the absolute best.

Peterson's modest punching power means that he'll have to work for his throughout. Lamont is at the stage where he knows slick boxing won't build up his name, and I think Bruseles is the perfect opponent to allow him to win, look good doing so AND learn a little something all in the same night.

I like this fight a lot, and actually look forward to covering it.

Bruseles is in Evangelista Cotto stable, he was Miguel Cotto's very first sparring partner.

The funny, thing is, I was at fight in AC and ran into Evangelista and Bruseles on the boardwalk, the day after. His was wearing glasses and was lumped up.
Evangelista is a super cool dude and looks like he'll *** u up if you **** with him. Short but stocky, looks like he was built from concrete, the man was solid. I've seen almost all his fights and he's a decent fighter, but if he wants to stick around, he has to beat Peterson..

Bruseles will be a huge step up in class for Peterson, it would be interesting.
