    FAO Iceman John Scully

How much does it annoy you to hear people like myself, who have never stepped in a professional (or amatuer in my case) ring in their life, try to act like they know a bunch about boxing, and make bold claims with absolute conviction?

I'm actually kind of wondering now that I was thinking about your "Larry Merchant doesn't know anything about being in the ring" thread.

I think thats just an elitist way of thinking. People can be students of the sport without ever making it to the top level. For instance, Tim Kurkjian the espn reporter, who has never played in a Major League Baseball game probably knows more about the sport than 95% of the people who ever played. Of course having been in the ring gives you a different perspective, but that doesnt make you automatically more qualified or more right than a non fighter. I think Max and Larry's opinions have more credibity than most fighters and ex fighters, but thats just me.

I don't know... mostly what would piss him off IMO is how many claims are made with absolute conviction on here.

If I were him, and I saw someone call Steve Forbes a bum, I would probably be out of my mind pissed off because of it.

well ya, as a fighter youre going to have more respect for everybody because you realize how hard it really is, but people from the outside are going to call it how it is and you cant get mad at that. I mean what do you want to call steve forbes, hes a tough guy with more talent than 99% of the population, but compare to the elite he's a bum. could he beat everyone of our asses? of course, but compared to someone like a delahoya how can you call him anything else but a bum???
