  • Super Middleweights Flock to Avoid Carl Froch

By Jake Donovan - If it weren't for bad luck, Carl Froch wouldn't have any luck at all. Or so it seems as of late, as the undefeated super middleweight contender has encountered hesitation at every step amidst his climb up the divisional ladder.

Froch (22-0, 18KO) was supposed to headline Showtime's special edition of ShoBox against Dennis Inkin in his hometown of Nottingham, England this weekend (Saturday, tape-delayed 10:45PM ET/PT). The bout itself was a rescheduling of a match-up originally slated for March 29, but instead hits the scrap heap for the second time in as many tries after Inkin once again pulled up lame.

Not only has Inkin cost Froch time away from the ring (six months between fights), but also has now affected his status on the show, which has been downgraded from main event to possibly not even winding up on the telecast.

With Rubin Williams accepting the last-minute assignment over the weekend, the decision was made to elevate Froch's promotional stable mates Junior Witter (vs. Tim Bradley) and John Murray (vs. John Fewkes) to main go and co-feature, respectively, with the belief that Froch-Williams isn't quite Must See TV. He's a ****y S.O.B but no one has yet to knock the chip off his shoulder. He doesn't lack for confidence but that low guard of his may bite him in the butt when he's in with the elite like Kessler.

I couldn't be bothered to read the article.

Froch has made a career out of fighting tomato cans.

And in those fights his hands are low and he has no speed.

All Kessler, Mundine and Bute stop Froch early. Not in the same league as the top 3. Its all wishful thinking.

E.G watch some of his fights on youtube, the guy is not up there with the elites in the division!

Inkin might be ducking Froch. As for anyone else, what serious fighter is going to take a fight at 7 days notice?

Froch hasn't fought anyone worth a damn and he's 30. He can't blame anyone else for that.

Froch is a class act, Like Marmite you either love or hate him..I really quite like his confidence though, Most people that hates him do so because he calls out Joe calzaghe which i dont see why he shouldnt.

Him and Witter cant get a proper name/fight to save their lives, I hope his luck changes very soon.

I like Froch. He could easily win a world title. He just pisses me off when he doesn't chase the big fights. The Calzaghe one isn't going to happen until he gets some big wins at SMW .... and it's probably too late for that given Calzaghe's imminent retirement.

The article was a good read. Carl Froch's story needs telling.

I do feel sorry for Froch. He has suffered from a bad injury last year and now that he is finally back to fully fitness he finds himself being messed around by various possible opponents. That being said, after the Williams fight, assuming he emerges victorious, he needs to make the big fights happen, be that in the US or UK. Its clear that he rates himself against southpaws so a meeting with Bute would be an attractive option, or maybe a fight which is even more attractive for me: Edison Miranda. He needs to get a move on now though, or before he'll know it, it'll be too late.

Inkin never deserves to fight for title........what a complete disgrace.

Kessler would smash him!...hes not a bad little fighter...a bit like Beyer with some balls thrown in...Kess...KO middle rounds if they ever meet.
Mundine would take care of him too.
