I'm not going to call Vitali names because I respect him as a fighter but he really does need to consider retirement. He is holding up the HW division IMO and he wont be healthy for a fight with Peter.when does he plan on comming back and fighting for this title he claims is his? and why the **** is the WBC going to allow him to come back and get an automatic shot when he has been gone for this long?
I really think its time for Vitali to just stay clear of the sport, bring on Peter vs Golota and lets just finish the unification tourney already!
I cant beleive how many people still support this guy when he hasnt done anything in this sport, he contracted to fight Rahman, postponed the fight a million times then retired What is the ****ing deal and why is the WBC allowing this **** to happen?
I agree with you on the bold part..He hasnt fought in years but people still give him a the upper hand over Peter..Peter is no push over. With the time out of the ring and history of injuries...he seriously trying to get himself hurtComment

Exactly my point, I mean damn everybody was bashing Lewis when he was deciding what to do after the Vitali fight and all that **** about how Lennox was holding up the divison etc...
I am sorry but Vitali isnt doing any different, and you know I do respect him as a fighter, but the lack of respect that his fans have shown towards lewis regarding the whole deal makes me not even give two ****s about Vitali period.
somehow Vitali is the best thing becuase he lost to lewis, look its true he did look good in lossing he did fight a good fight but still looking good does not no matter how you try looking good does not mean you won.Comment

I have to agree with you on that...I've heard some crazy accusations on Vitali on how he was going to be the savior of the HW division when he returns..No thats flat out bull****...I understand the division is somewhat shaping up a little but...but to say Vitali is going to do the job is a crock of bull****...He's getting old, and injury prone, and he still hasnt shaked the ring rust off...He was a good fighter back then but the past...but a HUMAN's body does get old and fighters are not themselves after a long lay-off.Exactly my point, I mean damn everybody was bashing Lewis when he was deciding what to do after the Vitali fight and all that **** about how Lennox was holding up the divison etc...

And to touch up on this Lennox Lewis situation....I surely dont understand how some poster really think Vitali retired Lennox. Lennox was at the end of his career and he retired for a good reason. He was way past his prime IMO and he made the right call. Why cant Vitali understand that his body is not what it use to be.Comment

I agree, and I think its selfish of Vitali to hold up the sport like this, look Vitali wasnt promised a first fight with Lennox, the only thing Vitali acheived at that point was a #1 rating by the WBC.
Lewis was set to fight, Kirk Johnson, Vitali was set to fight on the undercard at staples, so when Johnson got hurt, Lewis decided to do the fans a favor and put together a fight between Vitali and himself.
but during that time just after the Tyson fight, Lewis himself said he is ready to retire, he wants to have a few more fights and hang them up, there was nothing left for him to do in the sport.
he was right there wasnt, but he did it anyways, look I aint discrediting Vitali but when I look at the senario, he did lose according to the rules.
Lewis did retire, Vitali did start to cry about it. But lets be honest that isnt where it stops, you can also raise a few eyebrows about his vacant title fight with Corrie Sanders.
Now let me try and sum this up, the rules are for a vacant title fight, that the #1 and #2 ranked fighters by the WBC are to face off for the title, if #2 is not available then #3.
Okay, so how did Corrie even get to fight for the title? if you remember correctly Corrie had just stopped Wlad for the WBO title. and when you hold a world title, you are un ranked by the remaining governing bodies.
So being that he was a champion how did he end up fighting for a vacant WBC title? Good Question.
about two weeks prior to his fight with Vitali he dumped the WBO title to fight him, and somehow the fight proceeded forward, but honestly Corrie was never ranked by the WBC at all!!!
meaning Vitali got to fight for a Vacant title outside of the rules!!!!
The man has been given too many breaks in this sport its time the WBC stops.Comment

I'll never call Vit ali names even if he did retire four times to avoid fighting Hasim "the Rock" Rahman. Oooooh.Comment

It bothers Brittley fans that his best wins were over fat guys, old guys, fat and old guys, or fringe contenders. Bu, bu, bu, but.....he was winning on the cards before he lost!!
He'll be beating training camp too, halfway through, when he pulls out.Comment

Did you see Vitali's eye? He was in danger of losing his eye lid!! That was a HORRIBLE cut, that was very bad from the start of the third round and was getting much worse. There was nothing controsversial about it. As much as I and everyone else doesnt like seeing a fight stopped on cuts , especially when the fighter who gets stopped by the cut is winning, it was a good stoppage.Vitali embarrased Lewis with one eye and gave him the biggest ass whoopin of his career, he was clearly winning the fight at the time of the controversial stoppage...Lewis cowardly turned down the biggest payday of his career because he is scared of Vitali and he knew he would get KO'd in a rematch.
Vitali is a 2 time heavyweight champion, highest heavyweight champion KO% of all time (35 wins, 34 KO's), iron chin, never been down...He is a badass tough mother****er.
It's a shame about Vitali's injuries, he never got to reach his full potential...Vitali would give every great heavyweight in history a tough fight because of his size, skill, toughness and power.
Secondly, Im against Vitali getting a shot at the WBC. Cause if Vitali wins, and if Wladimir keeps winning, there wont be complete unification.Last edited by Derranged; 05-06-2008, 08:17 PM.Comment

First off i totally agree with the first portion of you thread, Ive wondered it as well, but then again the man was The REAL...."Ring" magazine champion when he did retire. One thing I'd like to say about Vitali...and Im not a very big fan of him but give the guy a break here. I think that we as fans sometime forget just how hard these guys work and the "War" they put themselves through everytime they get ready for a fight. This guy has legitmately attempted to comeback on numerous occassions only to reaggravate past injuries time and time again. And it's unfortunate, the man puts himself through hell in training camp to get ready for his fights, only to see it go to ****. I was as upset as can be when he was coming back to fight Rahman and he reinjured his back. Just think how he must feel. They train soo hard and work there as off for 6-10 weeks all for one reason, to fight, and when fight night comes you almost see something in them that says all this work was done for this night. You see it in there eyes during the introductions of each fighter. And unfortunately for Vitali we have yet to see any of his hard work pay off the last few years. Its sad to see. And im really suprised it doesnt happen more in the sport the way these guys give there blood sweat and tears to get ready for these fights.when does he plan on comming back and fighting for this title he claims is his? and why the **** is the WBC going to allow him to come back and get an automatic shot when he has been gone for this long?

As good as Vitali was, he's held up the division for a while.
If he's injured and unable to perform I understand, but just because of that, why does he deserve a title shot.
Do others not named DLH catch those kind of breaks?
Not really.
I don't see why he doesn't have to get back in line to prove himself.Comment
