    Mayweather vs. Quartey @ 147?

The Mayweather that beat Baldomir vs. the Quartey that beat Oscar... I mean, the Quartey that didn't get the decision against Oscar.

I think the best jab in boxing at the time would give Floyd fits, but that is just me.

By the way, I choose the fighter since 1990 that I thought would have the best chance of beating Floyd.

Whitaker might have been a close pick for that, but I know polls have already been done for that one.

    Let's hear it!
    21
The Floyd Mayweather Jr. who beat Carlos Baldomir
    47.62%
    10
The Ike Quartey who "lost" to Oscar De La Hoya
    52.38%
    11

This would be a very tough fight for Mayweather, Quartey had an excellent jab that would give Mayweather a lot of problems and he never stopped throwing it. I think it would be a close decision going either way.

Quartey was good but he got beat by Oscar.I have talked to many hardcore boxing fans about that fight and they all agree. I think their should have been a stoppage in the 12th round anyway.

One thing every seem to agree was the fact that it was a great fight and one you can watch over again.

Like I said in response to another thread:::

Jabbing Floyd will only get you contered to sleep...

The jab only worked for Oscar because Floyd didnt expect it..with all that Ima rough em up talk Oscar was doing pre-fight..after Floyd figure his ass out..ODH never launched another jab the rest of the fight...he was scared to throw it..the same would apply for Quartey...who also is smaller then Oscar and lost to VARGAS(??)

No way he would beat Floyd.

A DLH discussion wit my homies a few days ago has had me watchin that fight wit Quartey a couple times lately. That was Ike at his best, and to be honest that version of Quartey could edge Floyd. DLH's jab in the 1st fight affected Floyd, and that's DLH circa 2007. Quartey in his prime would have a field day wit that left hand. Floyd against a prime Quartey would jabbed like whoa and probably put to sleep wit da hook in late rounds as a result.

I 100% agree with the stoppage in the 12th round... I was like, "wtf is this referee waiting for?!?"

But since it went to the cards, I thought Quartey won more rounds than Oscar... his jab had Oscar doing nothing except for trying to steal rounds with flurries (as usual).

I really didn't think the fight was all that great, I have to tell you. Like Thread Stealer said, other than the 12th round, it was really just a tactical, jabbing, chess match.

The problem with the theory of the jab counter, is that Floyd didn't throw it once in the Oscar fight. Not once.

Quartey's jab has the most power I have ever seen on a jab though.

He is one of the most unique fighters I have ever seen in that his jab is his money punch. His straight and hook really weren't all that great. It was all in the jab. Crazy.

Jeez, we could have just kept the convo on the other thread.

Who cares what the polls say. It's not like we're running for president.

Dewiens421, check out Quartys fight with Oba Carr. Carr was a great boxer he came in a time that was packed with greater boxers so he didn't become champion. But he was a top contender. Carr gave a great account of himself against Trinidad before Triniad timed him and took him apart but Quartey v. Carr fight shows Quarteys skills against a slick fighter.
